A New Symbol of Pride Soars High at the Survey of India, Hyderabad Campus

A moment of pride, joy and glory for the Survey of India Hyderabad Campus as Shri S. K. Sinha, Surveyor General of India, inaugurated the new 25-metre-high Flag Mast and hoisted the National Flag at the Hyderabad Campus.
As the Tricolour rose majestically against the Hyderabad sky, the campus came alive with a deep sense of patriotism and pride.
The occasion was graced by the presence of Shri G. Varuna Kumar, Additional Surveyor General, the Director, AP&T GD, Deputy Surveyor Generals, and senior officers and officials from various Government offices in the campus. The Principals of Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 and No. 2, Uppal, also joined the gathering, adding to the significance of this proud occasion.
The stirring notes of “Vande Mataram”, followed by the National Anthem, added to the solemnity and grandeur of the occasion.
In his address, the Surveyor General of India spoke about the deep meaning and significance of the Tricolour, inspiring everyone to uphold the values it represents and to continue contributing their very best in service of the Survey of India and the Nation.
Soaring high, the Tricolour now stands as a proud symbol of dedication, unity and service at the Hyderabad Campus—a sight that will inspire generations to come.
A truly memorable and glorious occasion for NIGST and the entire Survey of India organization.

Successful Completion – Special Training Programme on Control and Detail Survey using GNSS and Electronic Total Station (ETS)

The National Institute for Geo-Informatics Science & Technology (NIGST), Hyderabad, successfully conducted a two-week Special Training Programme on Control and Detail Survey using GNSS and Electronic Total Station (ETS) for officials of SJVN Limited, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.
A total of 05 officials from SJVN Limited participated in the programme and actively engaged in classroom lectures, field demonstrations, hands-on practical sessions, laboratory exercises, and assessments.
The Inaugural and Valedictory Sessions were graced by Shri G. Varuna Kumar, Additional Surveyor General & Head, NIGST, along with senior officers and faculty members of NIGST.
Major areas covered included:
• CRS and Map Projections
• Survey of India CORS Network
• GNSS Static, RTK & NRTK observations and data processing
• Stake-out surveys
• Traverse and detail surveys using ETS
• Construction layout and alignment surveys
• Robotic Total Station
• Survey data processing and GIS integration using QGIS
The programme emphasized field demonstrations and hands-on practical training, providing participants with comprehensive exposure to modern geospatial surveying technologies and the integration of survey data with GIS.

Successful Completion – Computer Networking – Beginners Course
17–21 August 2026
NIGST, Hyderabad
The National Institute of Geomatics Science and Technology (NIGST), Hyderabad, successfully conducted a five-day Computer Networking – Beginners course for 12 officers and officials from various offices of the Survey of India.
The programme provided foundational knowledge and practical skills in computer networking, addressing, protocols, switching, routing, network segmentation, wireless networking, network security, and modern networking technologies.
Key areas covered included:
• Networking fundamentals, architecture, components and Packet Tracer
• MAC/IP addressing, protocols, switching and routing
• OSI & TCP/IP models, subnetting, VLANs and ACLs
• Wireless networking and security hardening
• Network troubleshooting and device configuration
• Virtualization, SDN, Converged Infrastructure and HCI
The programme combined classroom sessions, demonstrations and hands-on activities to develop participants’ ability to configure, manage and troubleshoot computer networks.
Shri S. V. Pavan Kumar joined as Guest Faculty and delivered expert lectures and demonstrations, enriching the learning experience.
The Valedictory Session was attended by Shri G. Varuna Kumar, Additional Surveyor General, NIGST, and Shri Pankaj Mishra, DSG & Head, Faculty of Geo-ICT, who appreciated the active participation and enthusiasm of the trainees.
The programme strengthened the participants’ foundational knowledge and practical skills in computer networking and modern network technologies.
