CCRAS-NIIMH, Hyderabad, Organises Brainstorming Session on Prioritisation of Research Areas for Ayush-DST Collaboration

HYDERABAD: On 11-09-2026, the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences - National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (CCRAS-NIIMH), Hyderabad, organised a high-level "Brainstorming session on prioritisation of research areas for Ayush DST Collaboration.

The event was held under the esteemed guidance of Dr A. Raghu, Advisor (Ayurveda), Ministry of Ayush, New Delhi; Prof. (Vaidya) Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General, CCRAS, New Delhi; and Dr N. Srikanth, Deputy Director General, CCRAS, New Delhi.
The inaugural session commenced with a warm welcome by Dr G.P. Prasad, Assistant Director (Ayurveda) In-Charge, CCRAS-NIIMH, who greeted the distinguished guests and delegates, including Dr Rashmi Sharma, Scientist F, Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi; Dr Subhash Kaushik, Director General, CCRH, New Delhi; and Dr K.C. Muraleedharan, Deputy Director General, CCRH Hqrs., New Delhi. Dr Prasad also highlighted the Institute's major activities and key achievements.

Dr N. Srikanth briefed the gathering on the session's core motto and objective, emphasising the need for synergistic research. Prof. (Vaidya) Rabinarayan Acharya, DG, CCRAS, joined virtually and offered encouraging remarks to inspire interdisciplinary research. Addressing the gathering, Dr A. Raghu urged scientists to identify potential domains for effective collaboration between the Ministry of Ayush and the Department of Science & Technology. The inaugural program concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr Ghazala Javed, Director-in-Charge, NRIUMSD, Hyderabad.

The session witnessed active participation from scientists across the country representing both the Department of Science & Technology (DST) and various Ayush Councils. During the technical session, intensive discussions and inputs focused on different areas, such as the development of good agricultural harvesting practices, the development of simple quality assurance techniques, feasibility techniques for identifying adulterations, and the integration of drug discovery approaches into the Ayush system.
Detailed deliberations were conducted to pinpoint concrete strategic avenues for future joint research endeavours between DST and Ayush institutes.

The formal proceedings concluded with the playing of the National Anthem. Following the meeting, the delegates were taken on a medico-historical tour of the Institute's renowned Museum and Library, showcasing the rich historical heritage of Indian systems of medicine.

Prof. (Dr.) M. Srinivas, Hon’ble Member (Health), NITI Aayog, Visits CCRAS-National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH), Hyderabad

HYDERABAD | September 9, 2026
Prof. (Dr.) M. Srinivas, Hon’ble Member (Health), NITI Aayog, Government of India, undertook an official visit to the CCRAS–National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, located at Revenue Board Colony, Gaddiannaram, Hyderabad. He was accompanied by Dr. Shobhit Kumar, OSD (Health), NITI Aayog, and Dr. Janvi Prajapati, Young Professional, NITI Aayog.

Dr. N. Srikanth, Deputy Director General, Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), New Delhi, formally welcomed the dignitary and apprised him of the institute’s initiatives, digital portals, repositories, and historical research in traditional systems of medicine. Prof. Srinivas undertook a detailed floor‑wise walkthrough of the museum, library, and research divisions, interacting with officers and project staff. He also viewed a documentary on Agalya and the Rani Rudramadevi inscription, developed by the institute under the SAHI project.

The visit was followed by a formal meeting with officers and staff. At the outset, Dr. Goli Penchala Prasad, Assistant Director In-charge, NIIMH, welcomed the dignitaries and presented a comprehensive overview of the institute’s current activities, key milestones, and achievements. Dr. N. Srikanth provided opening remarks, emphasizing the strategic role of NIIMH in documenting and preserving India’s medical rich heritage.

Concluding the address, Prof. M. Srinivas commended CCRAS–NIIMH’s dedicated efforts in digitising rare manuscripts, maintaining historical scientific records, and strengthening India’s medical heritage through advanced information systems and research portals. He recommended adopting international practices and standards for the maintenance of this unique museum. He further stressed the importance of introducing training courses, certificate courses, and collaborative joint post-doctoral programmes, to build capacity and sustain trained manpower for the preservation of such rich heritage.

Prof. Srinivas also suggested positioning this institute as a tourist destination for medical and allied disciplines. He advised that NIIMH should follow the best international protocols to preserve our rich medical history and heritage and also requested to enhance visibility and global recognition. He further recommended that NIIMH engage with regulatory councils such as NCISM and NCM to connect with students and faculty, and develop mini-museums at IITs and other institutions of National Importance to facilitate wide dissemination of India’s rich medical heritage.

He acknowledged the valuable efforts of the institute in preserving the National Medical Heritage and assured full support for the furtherance of its activities. In the visitors’ book, he recorded his appreciation with the following remarks:

On September 8, 2026, the National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH) participated in the prestigious National Workshop organised by NITI Aayog at Kanha Shanti Vanam, Hyderabad.
The participation was held under the esteemed guidance of Dr N. Srikanth, Deputy Director General, CCRAS, and Dr G.P. Prasad, with a dedicated team of NIIMH officers and staff representing the institute.

Exciting day at NIIMH, Hyderabad! 🌱
We were honoured to welcome Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Honourable Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, to the CCRAS-National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage today, September 7, 2026.
Dr N. Srikanth (DDG, CCRAS) and Dr G.P. Prasad (AD I/C, NIIMH) warmly welcomed the Secretary and presented an overview of the Institute's ongoing activities, milestones, and research achievements. Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha appreciated the team's dedication and encouraged everyone to push the boundaries of traditional medicine research even further.
Following the fruitful discussion, the Secretary took an insightful tour of the Institute’s Museum, Library, Manuscript Section, and the historic Achanta Laxmipathi Library, reviewing our efforts to preserve and promote our rich medical heritage.

🌿 Promoting Ayurvedic Wellness for Our Guardians of Security! 🌿
In alignment with the guidelines of the Ministry of Ayush and the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), New Delhi, the National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH), Hyderabad, successfully organised a special Ayurveda Public Awareness Program & Lecture at the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) BDL, Bhanur unit on 25-08-2026.
The program aimed to inspire CISF officers and jawans to adopt an Ayurveda-based lifestyle, emphasising health preservation, natural living, and disease prevention.
✨ Key Highlights of the Event:
Keynote Address: Dr G. P. Prasad, M.D., PhD (Ayurveda), Assistant Director-in-Charge, NIIMH, delivered an insightful lecture covering core Ayurvedic principles, including Dincharya (daily routine), Ritucharya (seasonal routine), and balanced Sattvic nutrition for managing both common and complex health conditions.
Interactive Q&A Session: Dr G. P. Prasad, alongside Dr Santosh Mane, Research Officer (Ayurveda), NIIMH, answered health queries from CISF personnel, offering practical, scientific and Ayurvedic solutions.
Awareness Outreach: Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials and pamphlets on home remedies and holistic health were distributed by Mr K. Srinivas Rao, Library & Information Assistant, NIIMH.

Green Initiative: NIIMH gifted a variety of medicinal plants to enrich the CISF BDL Bhanur campus garden, reinforcing environmental conservation and herbal awareness.

The program was conducted under the leadership and guidance of Shri C. Sriram Tejaswi (Deputy Commandant, CISF Unit, BDL Bhanur), with active participation from Shri Arshad Ali Khan (Assistant Commandant/Fire), Shri Uday Baviskar (Inspector), and a large gathering of dedicated CISF personnel.

The session concluded with CISF officers and jawans expressing their sincere appreciation for NIIMH’s health initiative and pledging to incorporate Ayurvedic principles into their daily lives for a healthier, more balanced lifestyle! 🧘‍♂️🌱

Centre of Excellence in Medico-Historical Studies & Indian Medical Heritage (CoEMHS & IMH)
Expected outcome/ deliverables:
1. Digitalisation, Transcription, Transliteration, Publication of Ayush Manuscripts, Rare Books.
a. This institute is undertaking a crucial project to make India's traditional medical knowledge more accessible. It holds a vast collection of digitized Ayurveda manuscripts, many of which are rare and written in various regional languages and scripts. To facilitate wider use and research, NIIMH plans to transcribe, transliterate, and publish 100 of these manuscripts (10,000 pages).

b. second project under this category is making digital replica (electronic copy) of new Ayurveda Books (all), Siddha (5), Unani (5) which are proposed for inclusion under Schedule 1 of the D&C Act, 1940 and Rules 1945 by typing the contents with due proofreading and editing .(Up to 200/20,000 pages.

c. Third one is Digitalization of Selected Rare Books and Rare Journal Issues of Medico Historical Importance available in the Institute (@3,00,000 pages /per year.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially named the National Indian Medical Resources Institute (NIIMH), Hyderabad as the WHO Cooperative Center (CC IND-177) for “Fundamental & Literary Research in Traditional Medicine”, an under the Central Ayurvedic Science Research Council (CCRAS), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India There is a unit. This prestigious recognition has been given from June 3, 2024 to the next four years.

2. Upgradation of Medical Heritage Library
[With Well-equipped Ayush Manuscript, Rare Books, and Rare Journals Repository, Preventive and Curative Conservation of Ayurveda Manuscripts, Rare Books, and Rare journals; Printing of digitised unpublished/rare manuscripts/rare books (up to 1,00,000 pages/per year); Procurement of rare books/periodicals/magazines/ and any other material related to Ayush Heritage, History of Medicine from different central/state archives/ repositories/libraries, and other organisations either digital or physical copies (up to 1,00,000 pages/per year), e-Book Reading Section for rare books and manuscript collection.]

3. Upgradation of the Medical Heritage Museum
[a. With Miniature 3D Models of Inscription, Sculptures of Medical Importance and Thematic Ayurveda concepts based on classical references (up to 5/per year); Virtual Museum and VR-enabled Ayurveda Heritage Short Movies; b. Development of Local Health Traditions (LHT) Gallery and LHT Web-Portal]

4. Capacity building Centre for Human Resource Development in Ayush Medical Heritage
[With six workshops/training programme for reading, transcribe and transliterate Ayurveda manuscripts from various scripts viz., Brahmi, Nagari, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Odiya, Modi, Grantha, Vattilithu and the capacity to work on the critical editions of Ayurveda Classical Texts.]

5. National Resource Centre for the Dissemination of Indian Knowledge Systems emphasising on Indian Medical Heritage:
This objective will enable creation of awareness regarding Indian Medical Heritage as part of Indian Knowledge systems. The key beneficiaries will be University level graduates/PGs and Doctoral students and students attending primary, secondary, higher secondary schools. The objective will be achieved by a. Showcasing of Indian Medical Heritage among Institutes of National Importance, Central Research Facilities, Central Universities etc., in and around Hyderabad (Pilot Scale up to 5 centres) b. Develop and conduct independent “Certificate Courses on 'Indian Medical Heritage” covering all Ayush Systems, Biomedicine, Medical Inscriptions, Archeobotany, Paleopathology etc., [up to 10 courses, comprising 10 hours of video recorded lectures = total of 100 hours of video lecture content]., and c. Upgradation of Indian Medical Heritage Websites/portals currently operated by the Institute with mobile compatibility.

राष्ट्रीय भारतीय चिकित्सा संपदा संस्थान, हैदराबाद में 19 अगस्त 2026 को एक दिवसीय हिंदी कार्यशाला का आयोजन किया गया। कार्यशाला का मुख्य उद्देश्य अधिकारियों एवं कर्मचारियों में हिंदी के माध्यम से बेहतर संवाद, प्रभावी लेखन तथा सुसंगत चिंतन क्षमता का विकास करना था। संस्थान में राजभाषा हिंदी के प्रचार-प्रसार एवं उसके व्यावहारिक प्रयोग को बढ़ावा देने के उद्देश्य से इस त्रैमासिक हिंदी कार्यशाला का आयोजन किया गया। कार्यशाला डॉ. जी. पी. प्रसाद, प्रभारी सहायक निदेशक के मार्गदर्शन में दो सत्रों में सम्पन्न हुई।
प्रथम सत्र
विषय: हिंदी भाषा का अतीत, वर्तमान और भविष्य
प्रथम सत्र में अंग्रेजी एवं विदेशी भाषा विश्वविद्यालय (EFLU), हैदराबाद की सह-आचार्य डॉ. प्रियदर्शिनी ने मुख्य वक्ता के रूप में “हिंदी भाषा का अतीत, वर्तमान और भविष्य” विषय पर विचार व्यक्त किए। उन्होंने हिंदी के ऐतिहासिक विकास, वर्तमान स्थिति और भविष्य की संभावनाओं पर विस्तार से प्रकाश डाला।
उन्होंने बताया कि हिंदी ने भारत के सामाजिक एवं राष्ट्रीय जीवन में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई है। विशेष रूप से स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के दौरान हिंदी में लिखे गए नारों और संदेशों ने जन-जागरण तथा राष्ट्रीय चेतना को सशक्त बनाने में योगदान दिया। “अंग्रेजों भारत छोड़ो”, “इंकलाब जिंदाबाद” तथा “सरफरोशी की तमन्ना अब हमारे दिल में है” जैसे नारों ने स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन के दौरान जनमानस को प्रेरित किया।
उन्होंने हिंदी की समावेशी प्रकृति पर जोर देते हुए कहा कि हिंदी विभिन्न भारतीय एवं विदेशी भाषाओं के शब्दों को आत्मसात करके निरंतर समृद्ध होती रही है। उन्होंने हिंदी के भविष्य को उज्ज्वल बताते हुए नई तकनीकों और डिजिटल माध्यमों के माध्यम से हिंदी के बढ़ते प्रयोग की संभावनाओं को रेखांकित किया। सिनेमा के माध्यम से हिंदी के प्रचार-प्रसार तथा देश-विदेश में हिंदी की लोकप्रियता बढ़ाने में उसके योगदान पर भी चर्चा की गई।

द्वितीय सत्र
विषय: हिंदी पत्रिका में लेखन
वक्ता: डॉ. संतोष एस. माने, अनुसंधान अधिकारी (आयुर्वेद)
द्वितीय सत्र में डॉ. संतोष एस. माने ने “हिंदी पत्रिका में लेखन” विषय पर व्याख्यान दिया। उन्होंने पत्रिका-लेखन में विषय-चयन, उपयुक्त शब्दावली, सामग्री-संग्रह एवं प्रभावी प्रस्तुति के विभिन्न पहलुओं पर जानकारी दी।
उन्होंने प्रभावी लेखन के लिए “स्पष्ट विचार + विश्वसनीय सामग्री + रोचक प्रस्तुति + सावधानीपूर्वक संपादन” को महत्वपूर्ण आधार बताया। उन्होंने स्पष्ट एवं आकर्षक शीर्षक, प्रभावी भूमिका तथा मुख्य भाग में कारण, प्रभाव और समाधान को तार्किक क्रम में प्रस्तुत करने पर बल दिया। सरल एवं शुद्ध हिंदी, छोटे वाक्यों तथा अनावश्यक अंग्रेजी शब्दों से बचने की सलाह दी गई। साथ ही, तथ्यों एवं आंकड़ों के सत्यापन, व्याकरण एवं विराम-चिह्नों की जाँच तथा पत्रिका के निर्धारित दिशा-निर्देशों के पालन के महत्व को रेखांकित किया गया।
कार्यशाला में संस्थान के अधिकारियों एवं कर्मचारियों ने उत्साहपूर्वक भाग लिया और दोनों सत्रों में सक्रिय सहभागिता की। कार्यशाला ज्ञानवर्धक, उपयोगी एवं प्रेरणादायक सिद्ध हुई। प्रतिभागियों से दैनिक शासकीय कार्यों में हिंदी का अधिकाधिक प्रयोग करने तथा संस्थान में राजभाषा हिंदी के सुदृढ़ वातावरण के निर्माण में सक्रिय योगदान देने का आह्वान किया गया।
अंत में प्रभारी सहायक निदेशक की अनुमति से राष्ट्रगान के साथ कार्यशाला का समापन किया गया।
