By addressing silt accumulation and overgrowth, the project will play a crucial role in mitigating floods, particularly during the monsoon season. Additionally, the restoration efforts will contribute to maintaining the ecological balance of the river while benefiting local communities that rely on it for various needs.

Home to the rare and highly endangered Sangai deer, Loktak’s unique floating phumdis make it one of the world’s most extraordinary wetlands. However, unsustainable development, pollution, and climate change pose growing threats to this fragile ecosystem. If we do not act now, we risk losing not just a wetland but an entire way of life that depends on it.

On this occasion, let us reaffirm our commitment to the conservation and sustainable management of Loktak and all wetlands, ensuring they thrive for generations to come. Protecting these ecosystems is not just an environmental duty but a necessity for a sustainable future.
