Pay tribute to first India Gorkha freedom fighter!

Today, we pay my tribute to Saheed Niranjan Chhetri, freedom fighter from Manipur who was sentenced to death on June 8, 1891. Subedar Niranjan Chhetri left the British Army to join the native force of Manipur led by Prince Tikendrajit and Thangal General. Niranjan Chhetri was appointed as a Subedar in the native rebel army by the Prince himself.

It is a matter of pride that Saheed Niranjan Chhetri also happens to be the first martyr from the Indian Gorkha community to sacrifice his life for the freedom of the nation.

The youth and students of the community to take this rich historical legacy forward. Their sacrifice and struggle were for the betterment of our nation is something that each of us can emulate and be inspired from.

Manipuri Gorkha protest erupt in various area:

Anger and grief swept through Kangpokpi district and Kangalatonbi area on Saturday and sunday as hundreds from the Gorkha community staged a massive peaceful sit-in protest at Kalapahar and Kangalatonbi, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible for the brutal murder of 63-year-old Pushpa Devi, whose killing inside her own home in Charhajare has sent shockwaves across the region.

Gorkha Pride: Daughter of Manipur Commissioned as Indian Army Nursing Officer 🇮🇳⚔️

A proud moment for the Gorkha community and Manipur as Lieutenant Madhu Karki has been commissioned as a Nursing Officer in the Indian Army.

She is the daughter of Havildar Yam Bahadur Karki and Mrs. Hima Karki from Charhajare, Motbung in Kangpokpi district.

Selected as a Nursing Officer Cadet in 2022, she completed four years of tough training at Command Hospital, Eastern Command, Kolkata.

Her journey is a true inspiration for young people — showing that hard work, discipline and determination can make dreams come true. 💙

The selected students are Miss Geyon Talom of JNV Geku in Upper Siang, Miss Lukshmi Sikom of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Kuporijo in Upper Subansiri, and Miss Jennifer Neri of JNV Seppa in East Kameng.

Their selection reflects dedication, hard work, and a strong passion for science among young students of the state.
