A One Day Astronomy Outreach Programme in connection with the 44th Meet of the Astronomical Society of India (ASI) was successfully organised today at the Arunachal Pradesh Science Centre, IG Park, Itanagar, jointly by Arunachal Pradesh Science Centre, a unit of Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science and Technology (APSCS&T), and the Department of Physics & RATC, Rajiv Gandhi University, in collaboration with the Public Outreach and Education Committee of the Astronomical Society of India.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 46 students of Classes XI and XII from Good Shepherd School along with their es**rt teachers. The outreach initiative aimed at promoting scientific temperament and enhancing student's interest in astronomy and fundamental scientific concepts through interactive demonstrations and activities.

Education Officer, AP Science Centre, Ms. Peri Gem addressed the gathering and welcomed the guests, participants and students. She highlighted the importance of scientific outreach programmes in nurturing curiosity and encouraging young minds to explore the wonders of science and astronomy.

The programme featured a series of demonstration-cum-activity sessions on concepts such as surface tension, atmospheric pressure, Bernoulli’s principle, and static equilibrium with cosmic analogs. The activities were conducted under the guidance of resource person Dr. Shanjit Heisnam, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Rajiv Gandhi University.

Following each demonstration, students were invited onto the stage to perform the activities themselves as part of a hands-on learning experience. Interactive question and answer round was also conducted after every activity, encouraging active participation and scientific discussion among the students.

The programme further included a session on recognition of celestial objects during night sky observations at the Space Education Centre (Planetarium), providing students with an engaging introduction to observational astronomy and space science.

The event concluded with distribution of certificates to the participants.

Earlier on 26th April 2026, the Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science and Technology (APSCS&T) organised a one-day workshop titled “She-Cut, She-Seals, She-Sells: Empowering Rural Women of Arunachal Pradesh” at Joram village, Keyi Panyor district, as part of the International Women’s Day Celebration.

The programme brought together around 30 rural women entrepreneurs involved in small-scale businesses such as pickle-making, spice processing, and other local products from Suil Joram and neighbouring villages.

The workshop was attended by Shri Pill Kamin (GPM, Suil Joram), Miss Tana Yath (CFL Secretary), and Shri K. Heinglung Joseph (Principal, Bomi English School, Joram).

Delivering the welcome address, Dr. Pakngu Lombi, Deputy Director (APSCS&T) warmly welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment and the objectives of the workshop. He encouraged the participants to remain sincere, attentive, and committed to effectively using the induction sealing machine.

Miss Neelam Kuma, Scientific Officer, (APSCS&T) demonstrated the use of the induction sealing machine and provided hands-on training to the participants. The women learned how proper packaging can extend shelf life, prevent tampering, and build consumer trust. Machines, wads, and bottles were provided during the workshop, with the Joram Tisu of Suil Joram designated as in charge.

During the interaction session, participants requested a follow-up programme focusing on marketing strategies and certification processes for locally developed products. In response, plans were shared for a future programme at DBT, Kimin.

The programme also featured the presentation of a bamboo cutting machine developed by Mr. Laigi Baht. However, due to technical issues, the machine could not be handed over on that day.

The workshop successfully equipped rural women with practical skills to strengthen their businesses and opened doors for future training and certification opportunities.
