Remembering Pebam Chittaranjan — 15 August

A short excerpt video from Tapta -Chittaranjan.
Pebam Chittaranjan who sacrificed his life on 15 August 2004 at Bishnupur Keithel, in protest against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA), and in demand for its repeal.

While Independence Day is celebrated across India, in Manipur this day is also remembered by many as a day of martyrdom, resistance and remembrance.

🕯️ We remember. We observe. We do not forget.

In 2015, during her TEDx talk, peace activist Binalakshmi Nepram chose to begin with her homeland. Rather than introducing herself with titles or achievements, she introduced the world to Manipur—a land of extraordinary beauty, ancient traditions, and resilient people that has also endured decades of armed conflict.

She explained that she was born and raised in Manipur, where life has been shaped by the presence of conflict for generations. For many people growing up there, military checkpoints, curfews, and the sound of gunfire became part of everyday life. While much of the world continued with its daily routine, countless families in Manipur were living with uncertainty, fear, and loss.
