Lyallpur Khalsa College Organizes Paper Reading Competition on "Restoration of Somnath Temple - Swabhiman Parv"

The Post Graduate Department of History at Lyallpur Khalsa College in collaboration with College Development Council, Guru Nanak Dev University successfully organized an engaging paper reading competition under the theme "Restoration of Somnath Temple - Swabhiman Parv". The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various academic departments, who shared profound insights into the rich history, resilience, and civilizational legacy of the Somnath Temple. The programme commenced with a formal welcome extended to the dignitaries by Dr. Suman Chopra, Head of the PG Department of History. In her address, Dr. Chopra articulated her thoughts on the theme, "Somnath Temple: A symbol of India's culture and national pride". She emphasized that the shrine has stood through centuries as an eternal pillar of faith, cultural continuity, and unyielding civilizational strength. Gracing the event as the Chief Guest, College Principal Dr. Rashpal Singh Sandhu commended the History Department for curating an intellectually enriching platform for students. Sharing his valuable ideas on the topic, Dr. Sandhu underscored that the history of the Somnath Temple is a testimony to India's unconquerable spirit and national resolve. He noted that remembering these milestones helps the younger generation understand the country's profound cultural roots and heritage. During the competition, participating students delivered articulate presentations exploring different eras of the Somnath Temple's history, its architectural importance, and its enduring place in the national consciousness. Dr. Anu Moom and Dr. Geetanjali Moudgill acted as judges. Isha, Shivani and Himani bagged the first, second and third positions respectively. Harkirat Kaur, Nandani and Inderpreet kaur were given consolation prizes for their participation. A historical documentary video on Somnath Temple was also screened for the audience. A Power Point Presentation on the architecture of Somnath Temple was prepared by Prof. Jeenat and presented by Dr. Suman Chopra. Dr. Chopra provided a thorogh explanation of the Maru-Gurjara architectural features, the geographical and structural signifcance of the Ban stambh (Aroow Pillar) and detailed the the historical and mythological narratives surrounding the Smyantaka Mani.The proceedings of the competition were efficiently managed by Harkirat Kaur, a MA History student who acted as the moderator of the programme. The event concluded with an interactive session and an expression of gratitude. A large number of students, alongside faculty members Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Dr. Karanbir Singh, Prof. Jeenat, and Prof. Amandeep Kaur, were present to encourage the participants and make the event a resounding success.

Lyallpur Khalsa College Pays Homage to the Martyrs of the Freedom Movement & Partition Victims on the Eve of Independence Day



Under the directions of Govt. of India, PG Dept. of English and NSS Unit of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar remembered the martyrs of freedom struggle & victims of partition on the Eve of Independence Day by organizing a speech contest. Principal Dr. Rashpal Singh, remembering the sacrifices of freedom fighters and victims of partition, said that these events, about our history, bring the untold stories of our ancestors. He appealed to the youth to contribute towards building a stronger, self-reliant, innovative, and future-ready India. The event was graced by Registrar, Dr.Harjit Singh who, while remembering the sacrifices made during the struggle of freedom and partition, advocated the ideals of patriotism and constitutional values. NSS Chief Program Officer Prof. Satpal Singh informed that a total 25 speakers from different streams participated in the speech contest Horrors of Partition-1947. The speakers described the historical incidents during the freedom struggle and untold family experiences of partition victims. Judges, Dr. Ranju Mahajan & Harshveer Arora, declared Arshpreet Kaur, Simran and Vanshika Chouhan 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. NSS volunteers Vanshika and Jasmeet Kaur handled the stage. With immense patriotic fervour and high-spirited enthusiasm, Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, celebrated India’s Independence Day today in a vibrant collaboration with the 2 Punjab NCC Battalion. The campus resonated with patriotic echoes as students, faculty members, and security personnel gathered to honour the nation's rich history and hard-earned freedom. The celebrations formally commenced with a synchronized, soul-stirring rendition of the National Anthem, evoking a deep sense of devotion and unity among the gathering. A magnificent Tiranga rally was flagged off from the campus. It made its way back from BSF chowk amidst proud slogans of Bharat Mata ki Jai. Adding grandeur to the event, a large number of NCC cadets from various other neighbouring educational institutions joined hands with the college cadets, turning the celebration into a powerful symbol of youth solidarity and collective resolve. Principal Dr. Rashpal Singh Sandhu in his message paid glowing tributes to the freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the nation. Lyallpur Khalsa College leaves no stone unturned for the overall growth and development of its students in academics, sports as well as extracurricular activities. Keeping this intact, My Bharat NSS volunteer of the college, Jaskaran Singh has been invited by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India as special guest to witness the independence day celebrations of 2026 at Red Fort, New Delhi. Principal Dr. Rashpal Singh congratulated the invitee and opined that hard work is always recognized at the right time. He added that it was the dedication, perseverance and exceptional social work of the volunteer and guidance by his program officers that the ministry has selected him for this big occasion. NSS Chief Program Officer, Prof. Satpal Singh said that Jaskaran's case is an example that if one devotes his/her time for the community and social causes, he will be acknowledged at state or national level. He informed that during this felicitation ceremony other NSS volunteers, who performed well in the district level Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan related events, were also honoured. PG Department of Political Science of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar organized an educational tour of Punjab Legislative Assembly and Punjab and Haryana High court. Under this, students attended a live session of the assembly and the High court proceedings that was in progress. These sessions are highly educative and informative to the students. The new academic session 2026–27 at Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, began today on a spiritually elevated note, with traditional prayers and devotional music seeking divine blessings for the year ahead.The programme commenced with the collective recitation of Sri Sukhmani Sahib Ji at the college Gurudwara Sahib, attended by faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students in large numbers. The congregation was then treated to a mesmerising kirtan performance by noted devotional singer Bhai Bhupinder Singh Ji Khalsa, (Ramamandi) whose soulful rendition left the audience deeply inspired.Addressing the gathering, the Principal, Dr. Rashpal Singh Sandhu, underscored the college's unwavering commitment to seeking divine guidance before every undertaking.
