Jamkhandi History :
Jamkhandi State was one of the princely states of British India. It was administered as part of the Bombay Presidency, and later the Deccan States Agency. The town of Kundgol, which is in the neighboring district of Dharwar, was a non-contiguous part of Jamkhandi state until Jamkhandi merged into Indian Union. The name was derived from Jambukeshwar temple. The temple itself go
t the name because it was deep inside a blueberry (Jambul in Marathi, Nerale Hannu in Kannada, Jamun in Hindi) forest. Today, a primary school (Swami vivekanand english medium school and Nutan Vidyalaya Kannada Gandu Makkala Shale) functions from the temple precinct. Jamkhandi was a princely state of British India on the Deccan Plateau in present-day state of Karnataka. The Brahmin Har Bhat Patwardhan increased services to the Peshwa of the Marathas, and was the ancestor of the princes of Budhgaon, Miraj, Kurundwad, Sangli, Jamkhandi and Tasgaon. The first of Raja Gopal Rao Ramchandra Rao Patwardhan Jamkhandi (1811-40) was. 1820 Tasgaon was separated as a separate principality, in 1848 this British. Jamkhandi itself was a British protectorate until 1947. It was 1941, a two-part area of ??1357 km ² and 131,000 inhabitants. Jamkhandi, is a town in Bagalkot district in the Indian state of Karnataka. As of 2001 India census,[1] Jamakhandi had a population of 57,887. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Jamkhandi has an average literacy rate of 60%: male literacy is 67%, and female literacy is 52%. In Jamakhandi, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.The population of Jamakhandi is quite diverse one in terms of religion,language and culture. Kannada is the main language. Marathi is also spoken here. Attractions
