🚨 Jammu & Kashmir Rain Alert: IMD Warns of Heavy Rain, Flash Floods and Landslides Over Next 72 Hours

Jammu/Srinagar: A spell of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected across Jammu and Kashmir over the next 48 to 72 hours, raising the likelihood of flash floods, landslides, waterlogging and disruption in vulnerable areas, according to weather forecasts.

The Jammu region and South Kashmir are expected to receive the heaviest rainfall, while Central and North Kashmir are also likely to witness heavy showers during the period. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain over Jammu and Kashmir through the coming days as monsoon activity intensifies across the Western Himalayan region.

Weather experts have cautioned that intense rainfall could trigger flash floods in low-lying areas, overflowing streams, cloudbursts, mudslides and shooting stones, particularly in hilly and mountainous terrain.

Residents living near rivers, streams and flood-prone locations have been advised to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel, especially through vulnerable stretches susceptible to landslides and road blockages. Motorists have also been urged to monitor weather and traffic updates before undertaking journeys in the region.

The advisory comes amid heightened concern following recent flash flood incidents reported from parts of Kargil district, where heavy rainfall caused damage to infrastructure, agricultural land and livestock.

Authorities have urged the public to closely follow official weather bulletins and advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department and the district administration until weather conditions improve. The IMD has also warned of heavy rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir over the next several days as active monsoon conditions persist.
