A Legacy That Lives Beyond a Lifetime

NOTTO pays heartfelt tribute to 24 year old Shri Sunil Bosamakar of Betul, Madhya Pradesh, and honours the extraordinary courage of his parents, Shri Jaising Bosamakar and family, whose selfless decision turned an unimaginable loss into a gift of life.

Following his declaration of brain stem death, Sunil’s family made the compassionate decision to donate his heart, lungs, liver and both kidneys, giving others second chance at life.

Sunil’s legacy reminds us that while a life may come to an end, the gift of organ donation can help others live on.

SOTTO J&K, in collaboration with 150 General (Army) Hospital, Rajouri & Government Medical College Rajouri organised a Debate Competition, Quiz Competition, and Faculty Symposium on Organ Donation at GMC Rajouri.

The Debate and Quiz Competitions witnessed enthusiastic participation from DNB, MBBS, and Nursing students, fostering awareness and meaningful discussions on the importance of organ donation.

The State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO), J&K was part of the inspection team constituted by the Appropriate Authority, Jammu Division- Dr. Poonam Sethi, Director Health Services, Jammu (Convenor); Dr. Ratnakar Sharma, Head, Department of Surgery, GMC Jammu (Member); and Dr. Fayaz Ahmed Wani, Head, Department of Medicine, GMC Jammu (Member).

The documentation and administrative coordination for the inspection were efficiently carried out under the guidance of Dr. Poonam Sethi, Director Health Services, Jammu.

The team was headed by Dr Ashok Sharma HoD Ophthalmology GMC Jammu conducted a comprehensive assessment of the Eye Bank, Corneal Transplant, and Eye/Cornea Retrieval facilities at AIIMS Vijaypur, Jammu, to evaluate their compliance with the provisions of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994, and the applicable Rules.

Following the successful inspection, AIIMS Vijaypur has been granted registration under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994, marking a significant milestone towards strengthening eye donation and corneal transplant services in Jammu & Kashmir.

Ranked No. 1 globally in living donor organ transplants, India continues to strengthen its organ donation ecosystem and save more lives.

For the first time, 20,138 organ transplants were performed in a single year, crossing the 20,000 milestone in 2025—a 6.5% increase over 2024. India also ranks 3rd globally in total organ transplants, reflecting growing awareness and expanding transplant services.

A big leap for SOTTO J&K !

AIIMS Vijaypur Granted Registration for Eye Banking and Corneal Transplant Services

In a significant step towards strengthening Organ and Tissue Donation Servives, AIIMS Vijaypur, Jammu has been granted the Certificate of Registration for Eye Banking Services, Corneal Transplant, and Eye/Cornea Retrieval Facilities under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994.

The registration has been issued after a battery of thorough inspections carried out by the team of Competent Authority and is will be valid for five years from the date of issue.

The approval recognizes AIIMS Vijaypur's compliance with the prescribed infrastructure, facilities, and staffing requirements for providing eye banking and corneal transplant services.

The registration is expected to enhance access to corneal transplant services in the region, strengthen the eye donation programme, and help restore vision for patients suffering from corneal blindness .
