The festival in (Kulasekarapattinam), a small hamlet near , , is celebrated to mark the killing of demon Mahisasuran.
The Kulasai Mutharamman Temple is believed to be be 300 years old and has the idols of Goddess Mutharamman and Swamy Gnanamoorthiswarar installed together. Mythology narrates the story of the town dwellers who approached the goddess to save them from the cruelty of , the demon.
Some of the devotees even assume the guise of Goddess .
Some others assume the garbs of local gods.
People come to these dressed up devotees and seek their blessings.
Devotees who arrive for the festival take alms from door to door to raise funds for their expenses. And whatever money remains after their expenses are offered to the temple.

On Monday, a 21-year-old student named Nikita Tomar was shot dead in broad daylight by two men outside the Aggarwal college in Ballabgarh, Faridabad. The victim had last month filed a complaint of molestation and harassment against one of the accused, Taufeeq.

In the CCTV footage posted by journalist Raj Shekhar Jha on Twitter, the assailant could be seen stepping out of his car and pulling out his revolver. Nikita is seen struggling to get free and manages to flee for a brief moment before the accused grabs her again. While Nikita struggles to free herself from the man, he then shoots her in the point-blank range.

The other accused too got out of the car and pulled Taufeeq back into the car. The duo then fled the crime scene. As per reports, the accused initially wanted to abduct the victim but killed her when she resisted to his demands. On being rushed to the hospital, Nikita was declared dead on arrival. A resident of SGM Nagar, Nikita was a final year B.Com student.

स्वतंत्र भारत के दूसरे प्रधानमंत्री लाल बहादुर शास्त्री साहसिक और दृढ़ इच्छाशक्ति के व्यक्ति थे। 1965 में पाकिस्तान से युद्ध के दौरान उन्होंने सफलतापूर्वक देश का नेतृत्व किया। युद्ध के दौरान देश को एकजुट करने के लिए उन्होंने ‘ ान- िसान’ का नारा दिया था। उस वक्त खाद्य समस्‍या से जूझ रहे देश को उन्‍होंने एक दिन उपवास का नारा दिया, जो इतिहास में एक महान कार्य के रूप में दर्ज हो गया। मगर ज्‍यादातर लोगों को नहीं पता होगा कि देश को यह नारा देने से पहले उन्‍होंने अपने बच्‍चों पर इसे आजमाया, उसके बाद देश से ऐसा करने को कहा। शास्‍त्री के हफ्ते में एक दिन उपवास के नारे को देश ने बेहद गंभीरता से लिया। उनकी एक फोटो काफी चर्चित है, जिसमें वे प्रधानमंत्री आवास के लॉन में ही हल चलाते नजर आ रहे हैं। उस दौरान वे चाहते थे कि इस अनाज संकट के दौर में देशवासी खाली पड़ी जमीन पर अनाज या सब्जियां जरूर पैदा करें। उस समय शास्‍त्री का यह नारा काफी चर्चित रहा और देश ने प्रधानमंत्री शास्‍त्री की बात को माना। अपने बच्‍चों को उपवास कराने के बाद देश को उपवास का नारा देने से उनके जबरदस्‍त देश प्रेम की भावना स्पष्ट झलकती है।
