Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Jorhat successfully organized Kisan Mahotsav cm Exhibition on 23rd December, 2025 at its campus in observance of National Farmers’ Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Choudhury Charan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, revered as a stalwart of farmers’ welfare.
The inaugural session was graced by Shri. Patibra Margherita Ji, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Government of India, as the Chief Guest. The programme was also attended by several eminent dignitaries including Shri Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Kaziranga Parliamentary Constituency, Assam, and Shri Santanu Tamuli, Director, Assam Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation. Other distinguished guests present on the occasion included Dr. Sanjoy Chetia, Director of Research (Agriculture), Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, Dr. Manoranjan Neog, Director of Extension Education, AAU, Jorhat, Smt. Suravi Bhattacharyya, Deputy General Manager, State Bank of India, Dr. Phuleswar Nath, Chief Scientist, Assam Rice Research Institute, Titabar, Shri Debojit Dutta, District Agriculture Officer, Jorhat, Dr Debasish Borah, Chief Agronomist, AICRP on Integrated Farming Systems, AAU and Jorhat, Shri Mantu Das, District Development Manager, NABARD. Scientists from NEIST, Jorhat, RFRI, Jorhat, and representatives of various agriculture and allied departments actively participated in the programme. The event also received wide media coverage with the presence of Shri Biswajit Das, Station Director, All India Radio (AIR), Jorhat, along with other media personnel. All total 16 progressive farmers from Jorhat and Majuli district, 3 NGOs involved in agriculture sector and three schools were honoured during the programme for their contribution towards agriculture. Besides a book entitled “Empowering Rural Assam through Livestock-Based Livelihood" was released. Moreover, honorable minister had inaugurated a bird house as part of agrotourism as well as a museum in presence of all dignitaries for the benefit of all stakeholders.
As part of the celebration, a large-scale exhibition comprising 30 exhibition stalls was organized, with participation from agriculture and allied sector companies, government departments, NGOs, Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), nurseries, and self-help groups (SHGs). The exhibition showcased innovative agricultural technologies, improved inputs, farm machinery, value-added products, and climate-resilient practices, attracting keen interest from the participants.
On the occasion Horticultural Competition was also organised where farmers from Jorhat and Majuli participated in 5 categories (Fruits, Leafy Vegetables, Cole Crops, Fruit Vegetables and Cucurbits) with various exhibits which were inaugurated by the Director of Research, AAU in presence of Director of Extension Education AAU, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Jorhat, DAO Jorhat.
Altogether, 529 farmers, farm women, rural youths, and extension functionaries participated in the programme. The Kisan Mahotsav provided an effective platform for interaction among farmers, scientists, policymakers, and development agencies, thereby strengthening technology dissemination and reinforcing the vision of Choudhury Charan Singh towards empowering India’s farming community.
