Feed Support to Flood-Affected Dairy Farmers of Jorhat
Namdhari Sikh Sangat extended timely humanitarian support to 100 flood-affected dairy farmers of Jorhat by providing animal feed at KVK Jorhat on 27 August 2026. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sanjoy Borthakur, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Jorhat. Dr. Manuranjan Neog, Director of Extension Education, AAU, Jorhat, attended as the Chief Guest. Representatives of Namdhari Sikh Sangat, Sjt. Tasvir Singh Maan and Mr. Dambaru Dahal, were also present. The initiative will provide much-needed nutritional support to livestock and help affected farmers sustain their dairy animals during the critical post-flood recovery period. Heartfelt appreciation to Namdhari Sikh Sangat for standing with the flood-affected farming community of Jorhat.

The demonstration aimed to familiarize farmers with this innovative rice establishment technique and provide a practical solution for bringing flood-affected fields back into production within the available growing window. Demonstration on Scientific Silage Production and Preservation Technology for Round-the-Year Fodder Production was successfully organized at Majkuri Gaon, Jorhat by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jorhat.

The programme aimed to enhance farmers’ knowledge and skills regarding scientific silage preparation, proper preservation, and its importance in ensuring the availability of quality fodder during periods of scarcity. Silage bags were also distributed among the participating farmers to encourage the adoption of silage technology at the farm level.

Such initiatives will help livestock farmers ensure a sustainable supply of nutritious fodder throughout the year and improve the productivity of their animals.

Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) Demonstration Programme 🌾

A Wet Direct Seeded Rice (WDSR) demonstration programme was organized on 26 August 2026 at No. 1 Sonari village, Alengmora, a flood-affected area, in the muddy fields, as a joint initiative of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Jorhat and the Office of the District Agriculture Officer, Jorhat.

The programme was attended by Dr. Sanjoy Borthakur, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Jorhat. Dr. Samiran Bhattacharyya, Subject Matter Specialist in Agronomy at KVK Jorhat, demonstrated the technique of using a drum seeder for rice cultivation after the flood and provided necessary technical guidance to the farmers.

Essential herbicides were also distributed to the farmers by KVK Jorhat. From the Jorhat District Agriculture Department, Agriculture Extension Assistants Girindra Nath Bhuyan and Shubhankar Das were present during the programme.

A training programme for farmers was successfully organised at Bhakat Chapori, Majuli, by ATMA, Majuli, with the active participation of KVK Jorhat. The Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Jorhat, along with the SMS (Agronomy), KVK Jorhat, attended the programme as Resource Persons and interacted with the farming community on important aspects of agricultural development and improved crop production practices. The programme was graced by the presence of the District Agriculture Officer, Majuli, along with the Deputy Project Directors and other officials of ATMA, Majuli. More than 40 farmers from the locality actively participated in the training programme and benefited from the technical interaction and knowledge-sharing session.
During the programme, seeds of Black Gram (Urad) were ceremonially distributed to all participating farmers by KVK Jorhat to encourage the adoption of improved crop production practices and promote pulse cultivation in the area. KVK Jorhat remains committed to empowering farmers through knowledge, technology transfer and quality planting material for sustainable agricultural development.

An awareness programme on Parthenium was conducted at KVK Jorhat to sensitize farmers about the harmful effects of this invasive w**d and the importance of its timely management. Around 35 farmers participated in the programme and learned about the identification, adverse impacts and effective management practices for parthenium in agricultural fields and surrounding areas. The programme emphasized the importance of collective awareness and timely action to minimize the spread of parthenium and protect crop production, livestock and the environment.

Promoting innovative and climate-resilient farming practices for sustainable rice cultivation.

A Wet Direct-Seeded Rice (DSR) method of paddy cultivation was demonstrated today in a flood-affected field at Ajarguri Village.The field demonstration aimed to showcase an alternative rice establishment technique suited to challenging field conditions and to create awareness among farmers about improved and resource-efficient methods of paddy cultivation. The demonstration provided an opportunity for farmers to observe the practice directly in the field and understand its potential benefits under flood-affected conditions.
