At Annapurna Seed Library, our seed sowing beds have little guardians — traditional scarecrows! Made from simple local materials, these scarecrows help keep birds away while protecting newly sown seeds. Beyond their practical role, they add a touch of rural wisdom and creativity to our garden, reminding us of sustainable farming practices passed down through generations.

Bihu songs are not just music — they are the living heritage of Assam, carrying the stories of our land, agriculture, traditions, emotions, and way of life. Every community has its own traditional songs that beautifully preserve the memories of seeds, farming practices, nature, and the relationship between people and soil.
Today, at the Farmers Seed Festival 2026 organised by Pabhoi Green, I had the opportunity to present a traditional Bihu song celebrating our indigenous rice varieties and their deep connection with Assamese culture.
The song beautifully reflects how our native rice seeds have been a part of our livelihoods, daily life, celebrations, emotions, and love for generations.
Through such cultural expressions, we realise that conserving indigenous seeds is not only about agriculture — it is about protecting our identity, memories, and heritage.
Let us preserve our seeds, songs, and stories for future generations.

Today, Annapurna Seed Library participated in the Farmers Seed Festival 2026, organised by Pabhoi Green at their farm in Biswanath Chariali, Assam.

The festival became a vibrant platform for celebrating indigenous seeds, traditional farming wisdom, and biodiversity conservation. Farmers from different regions displayed their precious collections of native seeds, traditional crops, herbs, and harvests, and actively participated in seed exchange programmes to preserve and promote seed diversity.

A large number of tribal farmers from remote areas of Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh participated with enthusiasm, showcasing their unique agricultural heritage. The rich seed diversity of Khonoma Village was also beautifully presented by Kevi Organic.

The festival also highlighted the efforts of organic farmers who displayed their naturally grown vegetables and farm products, inspiring a collective movement towards sustainable and chemical-free agriculture.

Annapurna Seed Library continues its mission to conserve indigenous seeds, spread seed wisdom, and nurture a sustainable future.

MUKTIJUDDHA FADU GHATUWAL MODEL SCHOOL, Rajoi Tea Estate, Jorhat organised a hands-on training programme on Vermicomposting along with an awareness session on “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” in collaboration with Annapurna Seed Library.
More than 70 enthusiastic students participated in the programme and learned about soil health, composting, biodiversity conservation, and the importance of reducing chemical dependency through organic and natural farming practices.
The session highlighted the vision of Khet Bachao Abhiyan — protecting soil, promoting sustainable agriculture, and creating a healthier farming ecosystem.
The supportive teachers and enthusiastic students of this tea garden-dominated region of Jorhat inspire us to continue our efforts towards spreading sustainable agricultural knowledge in biodiversity-vulnerable areas.

Today, Annapurna Seed Library organized a hands-on workshop on the traditional practice of selecting and separating quality paddy seeds for the upcoming cultivation season.

Most students of Meleng High School come from farming families. By empowering these young learners with indigenous seed knowledge, we aim to reach farmers across more than ten surrounding villages. Schools are not only centers of education but also powerful platforms for spreading community wisdom.

The workshop introduced students to the importance of seed selection, seed conservation, and sustainable farming practices. Their enthusiastic participation reflects a growing interest in preserving our agricultural heritage and strengthening local food systems.

Annapurna Seed Library proudly celebrated the International Day for Biological Diversity 2026 in hybrid mode across two different locations.
At Assam State Biodiversity Board, Guwahati, our ISBN book “Indigenous Rice Diversity of Assam” was officially released. This publication is the result of years of hard work, field experience, and indigenous wisdom. We hope it will benefit farmers, students, and researchers in the future.
On the same day, an MoU was signed with Nakachari College, Jorhat to work together on agrobiodiversity awareness, traditional knowledge, biodiversity registers, and biodiversity education initiatives.
A truly remarkable day for Annapurna Seed Library with two important milestones celebrated together.

1) Our first publication with Assam State Biodiversity Board, release of an ISBN Book- "Indigenous Rice Diversity of Assam" from Aranya Bhawan, Panjabari, Guwahati

2) MoU between Annpapurna Seed Library and Nakachari College, Jorhat. We will support the college to create biodiversity awareness in nearby region in outskirt of Hollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary.
