Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. Prakash Babu inaugurated and delivered the presidential address at the three-day international conference on climate change and its global impact, organised by the Department of Economics.

He highlighted its implications for agriculture, food security and water resources, and explained the impact of El Niño on food prices, agricultural activities and water availability.

He emphasised the circular economy as a pathway towards sustainable production, consumption and resource utilisation. The conference brought together experts and academicians to promote collective action for a sustainable future.

Pondicherry University Hosts Live Telecast of the National Launch of “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan”
Pondicherry University proudly hosted the live telecast of the national launch of the “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan” on 02 August 2026 at the Convention-cum-Cultural Complex Auditorium.
The programme was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, and was organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, through My Bharat. Pondicherry University was among the 50 selected institutions for this special initiative.
The event was graced by Shri K. Kailashnathan, IAS (Retd.), Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry and Chief Rector of Pondicherry University, Shri N. Rangasamy, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Puducherry,
Prof. P. Prakash Babu, Vice-Chancellor, Pondicherry University and the Chief Secretary, various Secretaries, DIG, SSP, SP, other officials of the Union Territory Administration.
A pledge for a drug-free youth and a drug-free nation was also administered, reinforcing the commitment to building a healthier and stronger future for India.

After thirty-six years of unwavering perseverance through numerous challenges, this aspiration has finally come to fruition. Today we mark a momentous milestone: the successful transfer and registration of the land, a testament to the resolute leadership and swift action of Vice‑Chancellor Prof. P. Prakash Babu. The University expresses gratitude to Shri R. Gunasekaran, Registrar, and Dr. Rajeesh Viswanathan, Officer on Special Duty, PU Mahe Campus, for their consistent efforts. We honour this remarkable accomplishment — a collective triumph born of dedication and resilience — and thank all who contributed to transforming this long‑standing vision into an enduring reality.

Vice‑Chancellor Prof. P. Prakash Babu visited the combined NCC camp and addressed the gathering, expressing his pleasure at being part of one of the world’s largest youth volunteer organizations.
He emphasized that the National Cadet Corps (NCC) develops youth through regular training, camps, and adventure activities that build discipline, leadership, teamwork, and resilience.

Puducherry Rajya Sabha MP Shri S. Selvaganabathy and Vice‑Chancellor Prof. P. Prakash Babu jointly flagged off a new university bus procured under MPLADS at Pondicherry University. The VC thanked the MP for his continued support; the MP announced an additional Rs. 1 crore from MPLADS for university development and asked for a detailed proposal on priority projects. This initiative strengthens student transport and campus infrastructure.
