With reference to the investigation related to the unfortunate demise of Manasjyoti Chetia at Bihubar, Sivasagar, as directed by Hon’ble CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Sir, Assam Police is taking serious steps to unearth the truth.

Bihubar PS Case No. 10/26 u/s 103(1)/3(5) BNS has already been registered in the matter and a thorough investigation initiated by SSP Sivasagar, Smti Papori Chetia, APS who is personally supervising it on the ground.

Shri KJ Saikia, IPS, IG (ER) is on way to Bihubar, while. Dr. Robin Kumar IPS, DIG AP Hqrs and a Forensic Team has also proceeded from Guwahati to Sivasagar for the investigation.

Assam Police Cracks Down on Suspected Pakistan-Linked Terror Network

Acting on credible intelligence and in coordination with central agencies, STF Assam assisted by Dhubri Police, Chirang Police and Police conducted coordinated operations against suspected operatives of the Pakistan-based Shahzad Bhatti Network.

Akramul Islam, Aminur Rahman and Abdul Hussain were apprehended during the operation.

Five mobile phones, seven SIM cards, Aadhaar cards, bank passbooks, debit cards and other incriminating documents were seized.

The network is suspected of involvement in recruitment, online radicalisation, espionage, logistics, illegal arms procurement and the establishment of sleeper cells through cross-border handlers and encrypted communication channels.

Further investigation is underway.

Our own, Putul Sonowal held his nerve in a gripping tie-break to defeat Cecil Alexander of the Falkland Islands in the Men’s Singles sectional play at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Coming right after him defeating Canada's reigning world singles champion Ryan Bester.

Chaired the statewide Crime Review today.

Under the decisive leadership of Hon’ CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Sir, Assam Police remains relentless against crime, backed by stronger supervision, sharper investigation & technology-driven policing across the State.

The results up to June 2026:

-Crime rate per lakh population: 112.1, down from 121.5 in 2025 & 379 in 2021
-Cases pending investigation: 10,486, down from 11,140 in 2025 & 1,33,982 in 2021
-Monthly average case registration: 3,430.3, down from 3,682.9 in 2025 & 11,103.3 in 2021
-Chargesheet rate: 86.58%, up from 81.46% in 2025 & 39.40% in 2021

The numbers reflect sustained progress. We move forward with renewed focus and an unwavering resolve to make Assam safer.
