Rao Bahadur House - Chettinad Rao Bahadur Chettiar House is located in Kothamangalam. The wide courtyards, flamboyant halls & spacious rooms are embellished with marble and teak!

Rao Bahadur Chettiar House is located in Kothamangalam village near Karaikudi. The house has two buildings. The new building was built between 1938-1947(7 years!) for a total cost of about 3.75 lac rupees. The house was build by Sir Arunachalam Chettiar for his father Diwan Rao Bahadur Lakshmanan Chettiar. Sir Lakshmanan Chettiar got his title from the British government in Burma in 1931, for his

social deeds. At that time it was is reported that the cost per day for labor work was 75 paise! All columns of the house are made of granite and all the pillars are hand made! The older building is about 150 years old and is a pure delight to the eyes!
