At just 20, Bittu Tabahi stepped into a polluted river without gloves, boots, or even knowing how to swim тАФ and decided to clean it himself.
On 26 January 2026, the BSc student from Madhya Pradesh began cleaning the River near a temple, removing plastic and waste that had turned parts of the river into a dumping ground.
He also started turning puja waste into compost and teamed up with friends to buy cleaning tools and dustbins.
The mission cost him around тВ╣30,000, and he even suffered hand infections along the way.
As his work reached thousands online, some people accused him of doing it just for likes.
But Bittu kept going.
His surname means тАЬdestruction.тАЭ Today, he is trying to destroy something else тАФ water pollution.
Because sometimes, change begins when one person stops waiting for someone else to start.
