Coconut Development Board, DSP Farm, Kondagaon, celebrated World Coconut Day–2026 at Kondagaon, Chhattisgarh, with the active participation of farmers, scientists and officials.
The programme was graced by Miss Lata Usendi, MLA, Kondagaon, as the Chief Guest. Technical sessions on coconut cultivation and related practices were conducted for the farmers by scientists from KVK, officials from the Horticulture Department, and officials of the Coconut Development Board, providing valuable insights and practical knowledge to strengthen coconut production. The programme served as a meaningful platform for farmer–scientist interaction, knowledge sharing and awareness, highlighting the potential of coconut cultivation in the region. The Coconut Development Board, Regional Office, Bengaluru, in association with ICAR-KVK, Chintamani, celebrated World Coconut Day–2026 with the active participation of coconut farmers from the region.
The programme was graced by Dr. Shakeel Ahmed, Additional Director of Horticulture, as the Chief Guest, along with Smt. Resmi, Director, RO Bengaluru; Dr. Papireddy, Senior Scientist & Head, ICAR-KVK, Chintamani; Dr. Praveen Kumar, Scientist (Horticulture); Dr. Narasimha Reddy, Scientist (Crop Protection); Dr. Sandhya, Scientist (Food Science); and Shri Balakrishna, Assistant Director of Horticulture, Chintamani.
A technical session on scientific cultivation of coconut and pest & disease management was conducted to create awareness and strengthen the knowledge of farmers. A Kannada technical bulletin on coconut cultivation, prepared by ICAR-KVK, Chintamani, was also released on the occasion. Around 200 coconut farmers from Chikkaballapur and Kolar districts actively participated in the programme, making the celebration a meaningful platform for knowledge sharing and farmer–scientist interaction. The event highlighted the importance of adopting scientific cultivation practices and effective pest and disease management for sustainable coconut production. As part of the World Coconut Day–2026 celebrations, the Coconut Development Board, State Centre, Junagadh, jointly with the Department of Horticulture, Government of Gujarat, and Navsari Agricultural University (NAU), organised a Zonal Seminar on the theme “Coconut in Times of Uncertainty: Securing Food, Energy, and Livelihoods” on 2 September 2026 at the Centre of Excellence for Floriculture & Mango, Department of Horticulture, GoG, Chanvai, Valsad, Gujarat. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. R. M. Naik, Vice-Chancellor, NAU, in the presence of senior officials, scientists, academicians and other stakeholders from the horticulture and plantation sectors.
A technical session was also organised, focusing on important aspects of coconut cultivation and its role in strengthening food security, energy resources and sustainable livelihoods. More than 180 farmers and participants from Gujarat and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, along with departmental officers, actively participated in the programme.
