Five-Day Onboard Training on Deep Sea Fishing Practices Successfully Conducted at ICAR–CIFT
A 5-day onboard training programme on “Orientation on Deep Sea Fishing Practices”, jointly organized by NCDC, New Delhi and ICAR–CIFT, Kochi, was conducted from 25–29 May 2026 at ICAR–CIFT.
The programme aimed to strengthen the technical capacity of coastal fishers and promote safe, sustainable, and efficient deep-sea fishing operations. A total of 10 fishers from Gujarat and Puducherry, including 4 women participants representing fisheries cooperative societies, attended the training.
The programme covered responsible fishing techniques, marine conservation, navigation systems, fish finding technologies and onboard safety procedures. Participants also received hands-on onboard training aboard FV Harita on deep-sea fishing operations, safety at sea, and sustainable fishing practices.
The initiative highlighted the importance of capacity building, modern fishing technologies, and responsible fisheries management for ensuring livelihood security and sustainable utilization of marine resources.

Five-Day Onboard Training Programme on Deep Sea Fishing Practices Begins at ICAR-CIFT
A five-day onboard training programme on “Orientation on Deep Sea Fishing Practices”, jointly organized by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), New Delhi and ICAR–CIFT, Kochi, commenced at ICAR–CIFT on 25.05.2026 and will continue till 29.05.2026.
A total of 10 fishers from Gujarat and Puducherry are participating in the training, including 4 women fishers, reflecting increasing women participation in the fisheries sector. During the programme period, participants will undergo hands-on training in deep sea fishing operations onboard the ICAR–CIFT research vessel FV Harita, gaining practical exposure to modern fishing techniques, safety at sea, and responsible fishing practices. This initiative aims to strengthen capacity building among coastal fishers and promote safe, efficient, and sustainable deep sea fishing practices.

ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology organized a National Awareness Campaign on Balanced Use of Fertilizers at 📍Krishi Bhavan, Chengallur, Pudukkad Panchayat, Thrissur District on 📅 22 May 2026 under the MGMG initiative 🌾📊

Divya, Agricultural Officer, Chengallur, who emphasized the urgent need for scientific farming practices and cautioned against excessive use of chemical fertilizers due to their adverse impact on soil fertility and beneficial microbial activity.

Under the MGMG initiative, ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology organized a Farmers’ Awareness Campaign Programme on Balanced Use of Fertilizers at 📍Ezhacherry, Kottayam District on 📅 21 May 2026.
🤝 The programme was organized with the support of Sri S.D. Chandran, who facilitated a field-level interaction with local farmers and agricultural labourers.

Strengthening Digital Procurement at ICAR-CIFT 💻📦📑
ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology successfully organized a one-day Training Programme on Government e-Marketplace (GeM) on May 6, 2026, at the Institute Conference Hall, Kochi.
The programme aimed to familiarize staff with the latest updates and mandatory procedures in the GeM portal, strengthening efficient and transparent e-procurement practices in government institutions.
The session was inaugurated in the presence of the Director, Senior Administrative Officer, and Senior Finance & Accounts Officer of ICAR-CIFT. Staff from Headquarters and various Research Centres actively participated.
🖥️ Shri Vivek P., Trainer & Facilitator, GeM, delivered expert sessions on operational aspects of the portal and addressed participant queries.
The training is expected to further streamline procurement processes and improve operational efficiency at ICAR-CIFT.
