A new Organic Waste Compostor (OWC) Plant near Kaloor Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium at Karukapilly was inaugurated on 30th October 2025 by Hon. Leader of the Opposition, Government of Kerala Shri. V. D. Satheesan. The switch-on ceremony of the plant was carried out by the Hon. Mayor Adv. M. Anilkumar. The inaugural ceremony was Presided by Adv. Deepthi Mary Varghese, Councillor Karukapilly Division in presence of Sri. T K Ashraf, Chairman, Health Standing Committee and Sri. Tony Chammany, Former Mayor.

The project was implemented with the CSR support of Geojit Foundation and with the support of GCDA.

𝗧𝗲𝗻 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗳𝗳 - 𝗔𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰-𝗵𝗲𝗱

Ten electric carts for waste collection were flagged off by the Honourable Minister for Industries, Law and Coir, Government of Kerala Sri. P Rajeev and the Honourable Mayor Adv. M. Anilkumar on 31st October 2025. These electric carts were manufactured by the Kerala Automobiles Limited (A Government of Kerala Undertaking)

These carts were procured under the CSR initiative of BPCL Kochi Refinery.

✨ A step towards cleaner, inclusive public spaces in Kochi

The newly renovated toilet block at the Subhash Bose Park, completed by c-hed, is now open to the public. This initiative was taken up with a focus on improving hygiene, accessibility, and comfort for all who visit the park.

What makes this special is the care and effort that went into the work:
✅ Upgraded facilities with modern fittings for ease of use
✅ Library and feeding pod
✅ Better ventilation and lighting for a safer and cleaner environment
✅ Dedicated provisions for women and differently-abled visitors, ensuring inclusivity
✅ Eco-friendly design elements aimed at long-term sustainability
✅ Use of NbS System to recycle the water and support the gardening activity in the park.

Subhash Bose Park is one of Kochi’s most loved public spaces, and these improvements are part of the larger vision to make our shared spaces more welcoming and people-friendly.

We invite everyone to make use of the facilities responsibly and help us keep them clean, so that this effort continues to serve all park visitors for years to come. 🌿💚

As part of the MobiliseHER Project , two days of co-creation workshops were organized by c-hed – Day 1 with the Councillors and Day 2 with theCivil Society Organisations. The discussions highlighted the urgent need for safer transit stops, better lighting, inclusive facilities for differently abled persons, seamless last-mile connectivity between metro, buses, water metro, and walking/cycling, as well as gender-sensitive planning that addresses safety, affordability, and convenience. Participants also emphasised the importance of keeping public spaces like sidewalks free and accessible to ensure walkability and safe mobility for all. These insights set the direction for building a mobility system that is safe, inclusive, and sustainable for every resident of Kochi.

The Swachhatha Pakhwada 2025 campaign concluded yesterday. As part of the campaign, various activities were conducted, including cleaning drives, greening efforts, waste-to-art competitions, and upcycling old clothes into bags for school and college students.

As part of the Thevera-Perandoor canal restoration project under the UNEP's Generation Restoration Programme, a photography competition, drawing competition, English-Malayalam essay competition was held for the public and academic institutions. The prizes were awarded to the winners by the Hon'ble Mayor.

Fort Kochi witnessed a historic moment as the Freedom Night Ride was inaugurated, marking the beginning of a movement where women reclaim the night. Organized by SheCycling in partnership with ICE Sheroes Kochi, c-hed (Centre for Heritage, Environment & Development), and the MobiliseHER Project (EU initiative), this event symbolizes safety, equality, and empowerment for every woman.

The ride commenced from Pallathu Raman Grounds, with participants cycling through the vibrant streets of Fort Kochi, celebrating freedom and dignity.
The Freedom Night Ride is not just an event; it's an ever growing movement of women and girls to reclaim public spaces.

Let's continue to pedal towards a future where every woman feels safe, empowered, and free !!
