On August 7, 2025, Dr. Zasekuolie Chusi, IAS, Director of Census Operations, Nagaland, along with officers, met the Chief Secretary to discuss Census 2027 preparations.

Key Highlights:

- Census 2027 Timeline:
- Phase 1 (House Listing and Housing Census): April to September 2026
- Phase 2 (Population Enumeration): February 2027 (reference date: 00:00 hours, March 1, 2027)

- Administrative Boundaries: To be frozen from January 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027

- Digital Census: Census 2027 will be conducted digitally for the first time, with an option for self-enumeration through a dedicated web portal.

- Caste Enumeration: Caste of households will be included in the upcoming Census.

This meeting aimed to address issues related to the Census 2027 preparations in Nagaland.

Union Minister Amit Shah reviewed the preparation for the forthcoming Census with the Union Home Secretary, RG&CCI, and other senior officials in New Delhi

The Census will be conducted in two phases. In phase one i.e. Houselisting Operation (HLO), the housing conditions, assets, and amenities of each household will be collected

Subsequently, in the second phase i.e. Population Enumeration (PE), the demographic, socio-economic, cultural, and other details of every person in each household will be collected
