Vehicular theft is becoming a matter of serious concern for the State and law enforcing agencies. Moreover, with the ever increasing number of vehicles on our streets, the cases of such thefts and losses only indicates a rising trend where such stolen vehicles are often used for criminal activities.

In order to address this issue, Nagaland Police has developed an IT system in the form of Nagaland Police SMS Based Vehicle Monitoring System (NPSVMS) under the following objectives:

1) Maintaining a common repository of vehicle information.

2) Providing an SMS gateway to disseminate this information to field personnel quickly.

3) Broadcast emergency messages to checkposts and duty patrols.

4) Provide SMS helpline to the public for quick reporting of vehicular thefts.

The NPSVMS provides a facility for the public to quickly report the loss of vehicle by SMS to a public hotline number 8415900400. Via this service, a registered person can simply SMS the keyword LOST to 8415900400 and the details of his/her vehicle would be instantly broadcasted to all checkposts in the State.

With the development of this new IT system, it is expected that the efficiency of the Police in curbing criminal activities particularly vehicular thefts will be further enhanced.

For information on registration and other details visit the NPSVMS website (www.npsvms.com)

To be Vigilant against Lottery Scam!
Nagaland Police appeals to the public to be vigilant against ‘Lottery Scams’ as we are already investigating many of such cases. A “Lottery Scam” is a type of advance- fee fraud which begins with an unexpected email notification, phone call or Text message (SMS) saying that “ You have won” large sum of money. It is very difficult to recover the money which you have already paid in order to claim the prize. It is to be noted mandatorily that -

1) Unless someone buys a ticket, one cannot win a lottery prize.
2) All genuine Lotteries will subtract any fees, tax, bank charges, courier charges etc from the “Prize”. No advance fee is ever asked for or paid.

The public is thus urged not to respond in any way to claim/receive such prizes. Further, everyone is requested to share and disseminate such information in any platform in the interest of the general public. For any assistance/information, please e-mail us at [email protected] or [email protected]

Bank Fraud is on the rise in Nagaland. There are Criminals who are involved in buying and selling Bank Accounts of innocent people. There are also people who are opening accounts using fake/forged documents just to sell them to big time criminals (for easy money). Criminal activities using these accounts are increasing manifold. The real problem is those who have sold off their accounts to Criminals aren't even aware of the illegal activities being undertaken using their accounts, let alone being involved.Nevertheless,it is a crime to sell off your account;it is a crime to open an account using forged documents;it is a crime to buy and sell bank accounts;it is a crime if you are letting criminals use your bank accounts to further their activities.
PLEASE help us spread the word that it is a Crime if one is involved in any of the activities mentioned above!
REQUESTING ALL FRIENDS TO SHARE THIS ON YOUR FB PAGE! HELP US SPREAD AWARENESS! IGNORANCE CAN BE DANGEROUS!
THANK YOU!

Caution against selling of Bank accounts and their misuse/ fraudulent use.
It has come to light that many bank accounts of Nagaland belonging to our own people especially students, are being used by Criminals for their fraudulent activities. Illegal transactions using these accounts are being done from other states such as West Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi etc. In many instances, it is being alleged that bank accounts are being sold by students/youngsters to unscrupulous elements for easy money without realising that such accounts can be used to commit crimes. A difficulty arises in tracing those Criminals who are using these accounts because they actually belong to others. Therefore it is being cautioned that in cases where bank accounts are being sold to others and where such accounts are being used for criminal activities, the original holders of the accounts can also be implicated. Students leaving their place of Studies after completion, are advised to close down their accounts unless they intend to continue using them. All banks operating in Nagaland are instructed to follow strictly the laid down norms and procedures for opening an account.

Some Tips to Help You Protect Yourself From ATM Theft:
*Get in the habit of using the same ATM machine for your transactions. Become familiar with it and be able to recognize changes to the machine.
*Use ATM machines inside banks rather than on the street (where they’re easier for thieves to access).
*If you’re visiting an unfamiliar ATM machine that is not inside a bank, examine it carefully for devices. Card or cash trapping devices need to be glued or taped to the card reader or cash dispenser. Look for ‘extra’ cameras beyond the basic and generally obvious ATM security camera.
*Never rely on the help of strangers to retrieve a confiscated card.
*Never use an ATM machine when other people are lingering. *Don’t allow others inside the ATM booth when you are using your ATM card.
*Report confiscated cards immediately. If you can, don’t leave the machine. Instead call the bank from the ATM where your card was taken .
*Don’t use ATM machines with extra signage or warnings posted on the machine.
*Never follow a link in a supposed bank email notice. If you are wondering if your bank has really contacted you via email, then close the email and directly type your bank’s website address into your browser. Visit your account and look for update notices directly on your account or bank’s website. The email is almost always a phishing scam.
*Never respond to calls or SMS purported to be from your Bank because your Bank or any of its representative never sends you email/SMS or calls you over phone to get your personal information, password or one time SMS (high security) password Bank .
*Register/Update your mobile number with the Bank so that you receive transaction notifications from your Bank each time you use your ATM Card.
