KAWACH โ€“ Safe Childhoods for a Thriving India was launched in Kokrajhar district under the aegis of the District Administration at a programme organized by North East Centre for Equity Action on Integrated Development (NEAID) in partnership with British Asian Trust (BAT). The programme was attended by ADC (Social Welfare), Secy. Legal Service Authority, Sr. Officers from Police, JDHS, DSWO Media persons & stakeholders.

The launch marks a significant step towards strengthening convergence, coordination, and collective action among various departments and stakeholders working in the field of child protection across the district.

Aligned with Mission Vatsalya, the centrally sponsored scheme of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, the district-level consultation brought together government officials, development partners, and other key stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for strengthening preventive and responsive child safeguarding mechanisms in Kokrajhar.

The programme emphasized the importance of a coordinated and child-centric approach to ensure the safety, protection, and overall well-being of children. It also served as a platform for sharing experiences, identifying challenges, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to build a robust child protection ecosystem in the district.

KAWACH aims to create safer environments for children by promoting awareness, enhancing institutional capacities, and strengthening community-based child protection systems, thereby contributing towards a safer childhood and a thriving future for every child.

District Commissioner, Kokrajhar Dr. P. Uday Praveen, IAS who is also the Chairman of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC), along with SSP, Kokrajhar Shri Akshat Garg, IPS today visited several accident-prone and fatal accident locations across the district to review road safety conditions and initiate preventive measures.

The joint inspection was carried out in presence of members of the District Road Safety Committee and officials from concerned departments including Police, PWD, Transport, and local administration.

The District Administration reiterated its commitment towards safer roads, prevention of accidents, and protection of human lives through coordinated action among all stakeholder departments.

Citizens are requested to strictly follow traffic rules, avoid overspeeding, wear helmets and seatbelts, and cooperate in making Kokrajharโ€™s roads safer for everyone.

A meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee was held today under the chairmanship of Dr. P. Uday Praveen, IAS, District Commissioner, Kokrajhar, in the presence of Shri Akshat Garg, IPS Sr. Superintendent of Police, Kokrajhar, along with senior officers from the District Administration, Health, Education, Forest Departments and other stakeholders.

The meeting focused on intensifying coordinated efforts to prevent drug abuse and strengthen enforcement mechanisms across the district. Key discussions included:

โœ… Sensitising teachers to identify early warning signs among students
โœ… Regular inspection of pharmacies

The meeting was attended by Shri Akshat Garg, IPS, SSP Kokrajhar, ADC (Magistracy), PDโ€“NHAI, DTO, and representatives from PWD, NHIDCL, and NH-PWD and other stakeholders. The committee laid out a comprehensive roadmap for a safer commuting experience.

The District Commissioner, Kokrajhar, Dr. P. Uday Praveen, IAS attended an awareness meeting with Heads of Educational Institutions, officials of the Education Department, and representatives of student bodies held at Kokrajhar today.

The meeting was also attended by the Director of Education, BTC, District Transport Officer (DTO), Kokrajhar, senior officials from the Police Department, Health Department and other concerned officers.

The programme was organised by the Education Department with the objective of sensitising educational institutions on important social issues affecting students and youth.

Addressing the gathering, the District Commissioner emphasised the urgent need to prevent drug abuse among the youth and urged all educational institutions to play a proactive role in spreading awareness, monitoring student behaviour, and promoting a healthy and disciplined lifestyle. He also highlighted the Government initiative of providing free HPV vaccination to girls who have attained 14 years of age but have not completed 15 years, and called upon institutions to create awareness among girl students and parents regarding the importance of vaccination.

He further requested educational institutions to counsel students to stay away from substance abuse and avoid rash and unsafe driving practices, stressing that coordinated efforts of teachers, parents, student organisations and the administration are essential to safeguard the future of young generations.

A dedicated contact number (602-690-0824) has been established for the public to report information regarding drug abuse. Anonymity of all informants will be strictly maintained and kept confidential.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from all stakeholders to strengthen awareness initiatives and ensure a safe and responsible academic environment across the district.
