📍 Joint Field Verification on Riverbank Erosion | Kokrajhar

A joint field verification was conducted today by the District Project Officer (DPO), DDMA, Kokrajhar, in coordination with the Water Resources Department & FO(DM), to assess the ongoing riverbank erosion at New Bangaljhora and Ramfalbil villages.

The team carried out an on-site inspection of the erosion-affected stretches, interacted with local residents, and assessed the extent of damage and the potential risk to nearby habitations, agricultural land, and public infrastructure. The observations made during the visit will support the formulation of appropriate mitigation measures and facilitate timely intervention by the concerned departments.

The District Administration remains committed to closely monitoring vulnerable locations and strengthening preparedness to minimize the impact of erosion during the monsoon season.

The migrant workers affected by the Tamil Nadu ammonia gas tragedy have safely reached Kokrajhar Railway Station and Gossaigaon Railway Station. Upon their arrival, medical check-ups were conducted, and after ensuring their well-being, they were safely escorted to their respective homes.

The entire operation was carried out with the coordinated efforts of the Circle Officer, Gossaigaon, Circle Officer, Kokrajhar, District Project Officer (DPO), DDMA Kokrajhar, Field Officers of Gossaigaon and Kokrajhar, IA, DDMA, Kokrajhar, DDRF Kokrajhar, Health Department (Gossaigaon & Kokrajhar), and Police depts.

Prevention and Removal of Unauthorized Obstruction of Natural Drainage Channels & Watercourses.

To reduce waterlogging, urban flooding, and flood-related risks in Kokrajhar District, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kokrajhar has issued a Standing Order under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

Natural drainage channels are lifelines for safe water flow. Blocking or encroaching upon drains, canals, streams, wetlands, or culverts can lead to severe flooding, damage to property, disruption of livelihoods, and risks to human life.
