8th May was World Thalassemia Day.
Thalassemia, a genetically transmitted Life-Threatening Blood Disorder, is 100% Preventable but almost 0% Curable. Prevention of this deadly disease is possible through awareness, careful partner selection and pre-natal testing, when required.
Rotary Club of Calcutta Pointers has been taking this key initiative of Rotary District 3291 forward through awareness workshops and blood tests in schools, colleges and communities on a large scale, spreading this awareness to 1000+ people.
To commemorate World Thalassemia Day, RCCP organized a march on the busy thoroughfares of Kolkata, with the aim of reaching hundreds of people. We are grateful to Kolkata Union Sporting Club for partnering with us along with other organizations. Close to 100 participants walked, braving the heat and the traffic. The event was covered by media as well.
Thank you PDG Sudip Mukherji and President Sharad Dugar for encouraging us and participating.
We pledge to keep working on the End Thalassemia Mission for RID 3291 !
