APCR Visits Kashipur Over Disruption of Basic Water Supply
On Sunday, 23 August 2026, a team of the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR), West Bengal Chapter, visited Kashipur, along the banks of the River Ganga, to assess the situation of residents facing disruption of their municipal water supply.
Residents, including both Hindus and Muslims, have reportedly been living in the area for 60–70 years. Despite their long-standing residence and available documents, the regular water supply has been discontinued, leaving residents dependent on water tankers reportedly supplied only two or three days a week. Streetlights were also temporarily disconnected but have since been restored.
The residents expressed serious concerns over the disruption of an essential civic service and alleged discriminatory treatment, particularly in Muslim-dominated areas.
APCR interacted with the affected residents, examined relevant documents and took note of their grievances. Access to safe drinking water is a basic human necessity and a fundamental civic right that must be ensured without discrimination.
The team comprised Umar Awais, Secretary, APCR West Bengal Chapter,Advocate Al-Tamash Haider, Coordinator, and M.D. Javed Alam, Coordinator.
