IACS Kolkata - The Saga of Indian Science IACS is the oldest science research institute of its kind in India.

Established in 1876 by Dr. Mahendra Lal Sarkar, it focuses on research in various scientific disciplines including Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Biology and Mathematics.

Subha Das Mollick traces the pioneering role of the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science in the early days of scientific research in India.

Dr Mahendralal Sircar felt that ordinary Indians should have a space for experimentation that should be indigenously managed, free from the control of the colonial government.
