The Indian Police Commission in 1902-03 recommended constituting Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in every province and on 21 March 1905 the Government of India accepted the proposal of the Commission. . Criminal Investigation Department is the premier investigation agency of the State of West Bengal. In Bengal, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) came into existence on 1st April 1906 under Mr. The first head of CID after Independence was Shri H.N. Sarkar,IPJP. At present , CID, West Bengal is headed by Shri Rajeev Kumar, IPS, Addl. Director General & Inspector General of Police. The Head Quarter of CID is situated at Bhabani Bhaban, 31 Belvedere Road, Alipore, Kolkata -700 027

CID, West Bengal, conducted awareness programmes across 19 schools in 9 districts of North Bengal and Purulia, sensitizing students about Women’s Safety, Human Trafficking, Child Marriage, and Cyber Crime.

Around 2,700 students participated in interactive sessions focused on recognizing risks, staying safe, reporting suspicious activities, and seeking timely assistance.

On , AHTU, CID, West Bengal observed by conducting awareness programmes in 11 schools across the State, reaching nearly 2,500 students.

Schools covered: Rabinda Balika Vidyapith (South 24 Parganas), Siliguri Girls School, Itinda Girls High School (Basirhat), Malda Girls School, Baghmundi Girls High School (Purulia), Dudhkundi Charulata Girls School (Jhargram), Benachity High School (Durgapur), Barrackpore Cantonment Girls High School, Jogesh Chandra High School (Howrah), Shiksha Mandir Balika Vidyalaya (Chinsurah) and Laban Hrad Vidyapith for Girls (Salt Lake).

The programmes featured survivor interactions, sessions by NGOs, DCPU and CWC, and a cyber safety awareness session aligned with this year's theme, "Trapped Behind the Scam." West Bengal Police continues to strengthen its 39 AHTUs to enhance awareness, prevention and victim protection across the State.
