Government of India established Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute in 1995 as an autonomous academic institution under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.The Institute was subsequently registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961. Located at Kolkata and named after the legendary film maestro Satyajit Ray, the Institute, the second of its kind in the country, is

a National Centre offering post-graduate diploma courses in Film and Television. Besides offering regular full time courses, the Institute has plans to undertake project development, funding and production of fiction and non-fiction films. In addition, research work on film and television related issues are in the offing

📝 The Screenwriting Department – OTT Writers’ Room Simulation Workshop concluded after seven days of intensive learning and collaboration, held from 5–11 August 2026 for the 3rd Semester Screenwriting students at FTII, Itanagar.

✨ Led by Anusha Nandakumar and Sandeep Saket, creators, writers, and directors of the Prime Video series Raakh, the workshop introduced students to the collaborative processes of professional OTT writers’ rooms, including concept development, character building, story breaking, season arcs, episode structures, pitching, feedback, and rewriting.

🎉 The Institute extends its sincere gratitude to Anusha Nandakumar and Sandeep Saket for sharing their industry experience and making this an enriching learning experience for our students.

📣 We are proud to announce that KOK KOK KOKOOOK, the diploma film by SRFTI alumnus Maharshi Tuhin Kashyap, has won the prestigious Secret Program Fellini Award at Italy’s Lucania Film Festival.

✨ The film was selected for the festival’s Secret Program, curated by acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf, who presented the award.
Maharshi, an alumnus of the 15th Batch, Direction & Screenplay Writing, reminds us that powerful stories can travel far beyond borders.

🎬 FTII, Itanagar delighted to welcome Dr. Anjana Puri, an eminent theatre-music practitioner, researcher, educator, and mentor to generations of actors and theatre practitioners, to FTII Itanagar for a one-week workshop with the MFA Screen Acting students.

🎭 The workshop will explore these interconnected disciplines as creative resources for contemporary acting practice, deepening the actor’s engagement with voice, body, rhythm, presence and expression.
This workshop was initiated by the Department of Screen Acting, FTII Itanagar.

💫 A recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2016) for Allied Theatre Arts – Music, Dr. Puri holds a PhD for her research titled “Voice, Rhythm and Movement: Towards a Pedagogical Model for Training the Actor with Special Reference to Indian Music Traditions".
