Maulana Azad College proudly celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India on 15th August 2026 with great patriotism, enthusiasm and national pride. 🇮🇳✨

🇮🇳 Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign 2026 – Alpana Competition & Special Documentary Screening 🇮🇳

As part of the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign 2026, an Alpana Competition was successfully organized today at the Main Lobby, Ground Floor, from 1:30 PM onwards. Students enthusiastically participated and showcased their creativity through beautiful Alpana designs inspired by the spirit of patriotism, unity, freedom and the Indian Tricolour.

This was followed by a Special Documentary Screening on India's Independence and Freedom Struggle at the Seminar Hall from 2:30 PM onwards. The programme provided an opportunity for students to revisit the sacrifices and invaluable contributions of our freedom fighters and reflect upon the significance of India's independence.

The enthusiastic participation of the students made both programmes meaningful and memorable, contributing to the spirit and success of the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign 2026.

NSS Unit of Maulana Azad College observed Har Ghar Tiranga Day 3 with a
1) Special lecture by Dr. Arunangsha Maitya on “The National Movement over the Years and Glimpses of the Lives and Struggles of Freedom Fighters” It was an enriching session as he addressed the audience with his insightful talk on our independence. Faculty members and students participated in the programme.

2) Poster Competition and Poster display. The theme of the Poster was Tiranga artwork and the program aimed to create awareness among students about the invaluable contributions and sacrifices made by India's freedom fighters and national leaders. Through informative and inspiring posters, students were encouraged to learn about the lives, ideals and patriotism of our freedom fighters and fostering a spirit of nationalism and respect for the nation's heritage. The judges were gave their verdict and encouraged the students.

Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign

Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign was enthusiastically observed by the NSS Unit of Maulana Azad College.
The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign was inaugurated by the singing of Vande Mataram by teachers and students. NSS volunteers actively participated in the Rally at Red Road organized by the Higher Education department of Government of West Bengal promoting the spirit of patriotism and encouraging people to proudly display the National Flag, the Tricolour, at their homes and in the community.
The volunteers spread awareness about the significance of the Indian National Flag and inspired citizens, students, and local residents to participate in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign with pride and respect.
The programme reflected the NSS motto of “Not Me But You” and strengthened the spirit of national unity, patriotism, and responsible citizenship among the people.

♟️ Inauguration of "ZUGZWANG" – The Official Chess Club of Maulana Azad College, Kolkata ♟️

Maulana Azad College proudly inaugurated "ZUGZWANG", the Official Chess Club of the college, on 6th August 2026 at the Seminar Hall. The event marked the beginning of a new initiative aimed at promoting strategic thinking, intellectual engagement, and a vibrant culture of chess among students.

The college was privileged to welcome two eminent personalities from the chess fraternity:

🏆 Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua, Arjuna Awardee and Vice President, All India Chess Federation

🏆 IA Asit Baran Choudhury, Secretary, Sara Bangla Daba Sangatha

Their inspiring words encouraged students to embrace chess not only as a competitive sport but also as a powerful tool for developing analytical thinking, patience, discipline, and decision-making skills.

The programme was graced by the Principal, faculty members, staff, students, and chess enthusiasts, whose enthusiastic participation made the inauguration a memorable success.

Maulana Azad College expresses its sincere gratitude to our esteemed guests for their valuable presence and extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the successful organization of this event.

“Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat”

The NSS Unit of Maulana Azad College organized an NSS Awareness Activity on “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” on 2nd August 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the College / Virtual Platform.

Our Institution was among the 10 other Colleges of Kolkata to be selected as a Nodal Centre. The programme aimed to create awareness among students and community members about the harmful effects of drug and substance abuse and to promote a healthy, disciplined, and drug-free lifestyle. As an important part of the programme, students and NSS volunteers watched the address of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and followed his message on the importance of building a drug-free and responsible youth community.

The volunteers also took a pledge against substance abuse, with the message “Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life.”

The programme was attended by about 90 students and NSS Volunteers, Faculties and our Principal Sir whose address to the students was inspirational. The programme successfully strengthened awareness about the dangers of addiction and highlighted the vital role of youth in building a Nasha Mukt and Viksit Bharat.

Three Days of Learning, Inspiration and Discovery Come to a Memorable Close! ✨🔬

The Department of Chemistry, Maulana Azad College, successfully concluded its Three-Day Special Lecture Series on 24th July 2026 with a truly inspiring session by Dr. Mijanur Rahaman Molla, Assistant Professor, Polymeric Drug Delivery Lab, Department of Chemistry, University of Calcutta.

In his thought-provoking lecture, "Drug Loaded Polymeric Nanonetwork as a Potential Nanomedicine for Targeted Chemotherapeutic Applications," Dr. Molla took the audience on an exciting journey into the fascinating world of nanomedicine and advanced polymer research. From the challenges of conventional cancer chemotherapy to the evolution of nanocarriers and the promising role of polymeric nanonetworks in targeted breast cancer therapy, the lecture beautifully demonstrated how cutting-edge research is transforming the future of healthcare. He also introduced students to several other exciting areas of research pursued in his laboratory, including supramolecular polymerization, gene delivery, oil spill recovery, and innovative sensing technologies.

Beyond the science, one of the most cherished moments of the session was Dr. Molla's candid interaction with the students. Sharing his own academic experiences and offering practical guidance on pursuing higher studies and research after M.Sc. and Ph.D., he motivated young minds to dream bigger and embrace the challenges of scientific research with confidence and curiosity.

The lecture concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, where enthusiastic students interacted with the speaker, making the event both intellectually stimulating and deeply inspiring.

As the curtains came down on this three-day academic celebration, it was evident that the lecture series had achieved much more than the dissemination of scientific knowledge. It sparked curiosity, encouraged meaningful discussions, and inspired students to look beyond textbooks towards the endless possibilities of research and innovation.

The Department of Chemistry expresses its heartfelt gratitude to our three distinguished speakers—Prof. Balaram Mukhopadhyay, Prof. Shouvik Chattopadhyay, and Dr. Mijanur Rahaman Molla—whose exceptional lectures made this series an unforgettable learning experience. CHEM FORWARD Lecture Series – Second Lecture

The Department of Chemistry, Maulana Azad College, successfully organized the Second Lecture of its CHEM FORWARD Lecture Series on 23 July 2026. The lecture, “Symmetry in Chemistry: Why Shapes Matter?”, was delivered by Prof. Shouvik Chattopadhyay, Department of Chemistry, Jadavpur University, and a proud alumnus of the Department of Chemistry, Maulana Azad College.

In an insightful and engaging session, Prof. Chattopadhyay introduced students to the fascinating world of molecular symmetry, covering topics such as atomic orbitals, molecular shapes, symmetry elements and operations, point groups, group theory, and their wide-ranging applications in chemistry. The interactive discussion that followed reflected the keen interest and enthusiasm of the students, making the session both intellectually stimulating and memorable.

The Department sincerely thanks Prof. Chattopadhyay for inspiring our students and faculty members with his enriching lecture. We now look forward to the third and concluding lecture of the CHEM FORWARD series with great anticipation.
