🏥 KANCHIBIYA DHS OPERATIONALISES 7 NEW HEALTH POSTS -BRINGING SERVICES CLOSER TO COMMUNITIES

In its continued drive to bring quality healthcare closer to the people, the Kanchibiya District Health Office has operationalised seven (7) new Health Posts within a month, raising the district's total number of health facilities to thirty-three (33).

📍 New Health Posts:
✅ Kate HP
✅ Mulima HP
✅ Nchubula HP
✅ Chirwisha HP
✅ Munkunta HP
✅ Chipi HP
✅ Namusulwa HP

This expansion means residents in remote parts of Kanchibiya will no longer need to travel 30–50 km to access essential health services. The facilities are strategically positioned to:

🔹 Reduce distance barriers to care
🔹 Improve emergency response times
🔹 Strengthen maternal and child health services
🔹 Boost preventive health care at community level

This milestone reaffirms our commitment to the national agenda of Universal Health Coverage through Primary Health Care, ensuring the people of Kanchibiya remain healthy, productive, and able to contribute to socio-economic development.

🏥 BETTER DAYS AHEAD FOR CHINSALI GENERAL HOSPITAL.

Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Dr. Tuesday Bwalya has assured staff at Chinsali General Hospital that government is committed to improving their working conditions, with plans to transform the facility into a teaching hospital! 🎓

During his introductory meeting with hospital staff, Dr. Bwalya announced:
✅ General workers to be employed for cleaning services
✅ Plans underway to upgrade the hospital to teaching hospital status
✅ Long-standing transport challenges to be addressed
✅ Access road to the hospital to be worked on soon

Dr. Bwalya urged health workers to stay dedicated to quality service delivery as government rolls out these improvements.

🦟📊 STRENGTHENING MALARIA DATA FOR A HEALTHIER MUCHINGA! 📊🦟

Muchinga Province just marked a major milestone in the fight against malaria! With generous support from PMI Malaria Reach and the Global Fund (GF), the Provincial Health Office successfully hosted a critical training on Malaria Rapid Reporting and Data Use for Malaria Elimination Officers, District Health Information Officers, and Pharmacists.
Speaking on behalf of the province, Provincial Health Director Dr. David Silweya extended sincere gratitude to PMI Malaria Reach and the Global Fund for their continued partnership with government in making this important training a success.

Better data accuracy → Better decisions → Better interventions → Healthier communities → A Malaria-Free Muchinga!
🔍 What the training covered:
✅ Reviewing and cleaning malaria data across the full reporting cascade — from patient records at community and facility level, right through to DHIS2 reporting
✅ Hands-on data mining and analytics using Community Step D and Facility Step B tools, helping health workers interpret data for smarter malaria management decisions
✅ Orientation and hands-on creation of QGIS maps and indicator dashboards, giving managers quick, visual tools to monitor progress and respond faster

📌 By the end of the training, participants strengthened their skills in:
• DHIS2 reporting & data quality assurance
• Routine data quality assessments
• Data analysis & dashboard development
• GIS mapping & malaria hotspot identification
• Evidence-based planning
The training met all its set objectives, and clear action points were developed to carry this momentum forward.
This is what real partnership looks like, government, PMI Malaria Reach, and the Global Fund working hand in hand to ensure malaria data isn't just collected, but actively used to save lives.

MUCHINGA PROVINCE NURSES & MIDWIVES RECEIVE NEW UNIFORMS

Muchinga Provincial Health Director, Dr. David Silweya, has officially launched the distribution of uniforms for nurses and midwives across the province.

A total of 1,419 pieces of snow-white and navy-blue uniforms for nursing officers were flagged off for distribution to all 8 districts in the province. Additionally, about 850 blanks procured by the Ministry of Health are ready for collection.

Speaking at the launch, in the presence of Provincial Nursing Officer Mr. Mutale, Dr. Silweya commended government's commitment to the nursing and midwifery profession, evidenced by this procurement. He encouraged all recipients to wear the uniforms with pride and to remain in full, proper uniform while on duty in clinical areas — cautioning against skimpy uniforms that do not conform to Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ) standards.

The nurses and midwives expressed gratitude for the gesture.

PROVINCIAL HEALTH LEADERSHIP VISITS MPUMBA MINI HOSPITAL

Mpumba Mini Hospital received an on-the-spot inspection visit from the Muchinga Provincial Health Director, Dr. David Silweya, accompanied by the Lavushimanda District Director of Health Services, Dr. Rodrigue Kamunga.

The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to monitor and strengthen the quality of health service delivery across the district, with particular attention to maternal and neonatal care standards.

Management and staff of Mpumba Mini Hospital welcomed the officials and used the opportunity to showcase the facility's operations, achievements, and ongoing commitment to safe motherhood.

We thank Dr. Silweya and Dr. Kamunga for their continued support and guidance in advancing quality healthcare in our community.

🏆 MUCHINGA PROVINCE NAMED ZAMBIA'S BEST PERFORMING PROVINCE IN LEPROSY CASE NOTIFICATION 🏆
We are proud to announce that Muchinga Province has been recognized as the Best Performing Province in Leprosy Case Notification in Zambia during the recent national programme review!
This achievement reflects our sustained commitment to:
✅ Strengthening leprosy surveillance
✅ Enhancing active case finding
✅ Promoting early diagnosis
✅ Ensuring timely reporting
✅ Linking every patient to quality treatment and care
For four consecutive years, Muchinga has recorded the highest leprosy case notifications in the country. While this shows that leprosy remains a public health concern, it also proves that our surveillance system is working, finding people who would otherwise go undiagnosed, preventing disability, and helping interrupt transmission.
None of this would be possible without the dedication of our health workers, District Health Offices, community health volunteers, traditional leaders, cooperating partners, and the continued support of the Ministry of Health.
🙏 Sincere appreciation goes to the Provincial Health Director, Dr David Silweya, district leadership, frontline healthcare workers, and every stakeholder who made this milestone possible.
