*Annual Office Inspection & Field Visit Conducted in South Lolab Range*
As part of the Annual Office Inspection Programme, the Divisional Forest Officer, Kamraj Forest Division, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the South Lolab Range Office.
The inspection covered various aspects of office administration, maintenance of statutory records, establishment and financial matters, forest protection, legal and seizure cases, plantation and nursery records, implementation of departmental schemes, and the overall functioning of the Range Office. The DFO emphasized the importance of keeping all records updated, ensuring transparency and accountability in official functioning, timely disposal of pending matters, and strengthening measures for forest protection and conservation. Necessary directions were issued to further improve efficiency, coordination and public service delivery.
As part of the field inspection, the DFO also visited Kailwan Eco Park to review its maintenance, cleanliness and preparedness for the proposed upgradation works. The park is proposed to be developed as an important eco-tourism destination of Lolab Valley, with a focus on nature-based, environmentally sustainable facilities. The DFO reviewed the preparatory arrangements and directed the field staff to ensure proper upkeep of the site and timely completion of preparatory activities.
A field visit was also undertaken to Compartment 50/South Lolab, where a minor mineral mining site located on private land adjoining forest land was inspected. The visit was aimed at assessing the likely implications of the proposed activity on the adjoining forest area and examining the site conditions in connection with the issuance of the requisite NOC to the District Administration. The DFO directed that all relevant technical and environmental aspects be carefully assessed before furnishing the departmental recommendations.
The status of forest protection and overall forest management in South Lolab Range was subsequently reviewed. The field staff were directed to maintain effective protection measures, regularly monitor forest health, remain vigilant against encroachment and other threats to forest resources, and ensure timely action wherever required.
The overall functioning of South Lolab Range was found to be satisfactory. The officers and field staff were appreciated for their efforts and encouraged to continue working with dedication and commitment towards sustainable forest management, conservation and effective public service delivery.
