A Birthday Gift of Compassion: Feeding the Voiceless in Devashi’s Honour

Today’s feeding session for the voiceless souls of Kurseong was made possible through the generous sponsorship of Dolzung Sherpa of 63, Mahanadi, Kurseong, who chose to celebrate her beloved daughter Devashi Lama’s birthday in a truly meaningful way.

Instead of celebrating the special occasion only with traditional festivities, Dolzung chose to share her happiness with those who have no voice and no one to call their own. By sponsoring a feeding session for the street animals, she transformed her daughter’s birthday into an occasion of compassion, kindness and giving.

At Kurseong K9, we are deeply touched by this thoughtful gesture.

First-of-Its-Kind Vaccination Drive in Darjeeling Hills: 82 Dogs Vaccinated with Megavac-6

Kurseong, August 8: In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the Darjeeling Hills, a free dog vaccination programme aimed at protecting community animals as well as local wildlife commenced successfully in Kurseong today.

The vaccination camp was jointly organised by The The Jumbo troops, Kurseong K9 and the Kurseong Forest Division at the Forest Office premises in Dowhill, Kurseong. A total of 82 dogs were vaccinated with Megavac-6 during the programme.

The initiative aims to reduce the risk of highly contagious and potentially fatal viral diseases among community animals while also contributing to the protection of wildlife. Canine infectious diseases, particularly Canine Distemper Virus (CDV), can potentially spread from infected domestic and stray dogs to susceptible wild carnivores such as foxes, leopards and other wildlife, posing a serious threat to their health.

The organisers stated that vaccinating community animals is therefore important not only from an animal welfare perspective but also as a preventive measure for maintaining the health of the wider ecosystem. They also appealed to responsible pet owners and animal lovers to ensure that their dogs receive timely vaccinations and to collectively strengthen disease prevention within the community.

The programme was attended throughout by Dr. Suedenla Tshering Bhutia, Veterinary Officer, Kurseong; Dr. Ananta Saha; Manoj Kumar Chettri, Range Officer, Kurseong; Dipen Thapa and Alam MD from The Jumbo Troops; and Divya Pradhan and Nishant Thapa from Kurseong K9.

The organisers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Shri Devesh Pandey (IFS), D F O Kurseong; Dr. Bhaskar Ganguly; Amit Thapa; Subhash Chettri and Indian Immunologicals Limited for their overwhelming support in making the initiative possible.

The organisers further expressed their commitment to continuing collaborative efforts for animal welfare, disease prevention and wildlife conservation in the Darjeeling Hills.

Kurseong to Host Free CPV & CDV Vaccination Camp for Pet and Stray Dogs

"The Jumbo Troopes", in collaboration with Kurseong K9 and with the support of the Divisional Forest Office (DFO), Kurseong, will organise a free Canine Parvovirus (CPV) and Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) vaccination camp for both pet and stray dogs on August 8, 2026.

The vaccination camp will be held in front of the DFO Office at Dowhill, Kurseong, with the objective of protecting dogs from two of the most contagious and potentially fatal viral diseases affecting canines.

Organisers have emphasised that the initiative is not only aimed at safeguarding domestic and community dogs but also at protecting the region's wildlife. Diseases such as Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) can spread from infected domestic or stray dogs to wild carnivores, including foxes, jackals, leopards and other susceptible wildlife. Such outbreaks can have devastating consequences for wild animal populations. Although Canine Parvovirus (CPV) primarily affects domestic and wild canids, vaccination remains an essential measure to reduce the risk of disease transmission and maintain a healthier ecosystem.

The organisers have appealed to all responsible pet owners and animal lovers to bring their dogs for vaccination and help strengthen community immunity against these deadly diseases.

Pre-registration is compulsory for participation in the camp. Interested pet owners are requested to register in advance by contacting Nishant Thapa at 7908505495.

The organisers expressed hope that the programme will encourage responsible pet ownership, improve public awareness about preventive animal healthcare, and contribute towards a healthier environment for both domestic and wild animals.

A Birthday Celebrated with Compassion: Thank You, Pankaj & Tshering, for Being a Voice for the Voiceless

Every act of kindness creates a ripple of hope, and today that hope came from two truly compassionate souls—Pankaj Ratna Pradhan and Tshering Yolmo of Sherpa B***y, Kurseong.

To celebrate the second birthday of their beloved rescue dog, Gigi, they sponsored today's feeding session for the voiceless of Kurseong.

Two years ago, Pankaj and Tshering opened their hearts and home to an abandoned puppy. They named her Gigi, and since then she has become a cherished member of their family. But their kindness doesn't end there. Over the years, they have rescued, treated, vaccinated, sterilised and sheltered countless stray animals, giving them the love and dignity every life deserves.

From the very beginning, they have also stood beside Kurseong K9, supporting our mission with unwavering faith and generosity. Their compassion has touched countless innocent lives and continues to inspire us to keep going.

❤️ In Loving Memory of Kibo Das Pradhan ❤️

Today's feeding session for the stray dogs of Kurseong was made possible through the generous sponsorship of Mrs. Priya Pradhan and her husband Mr. Ruben Das Pradhan from Darjeeling, in loving memory of their beloved pet, Kibo Das Pradhan.

Today marks the 21st day since Kibo crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Though he is no longer physically with his family, his love continues to shine through this beautiful act of kindness. By feeding hungry street dogs, Priya and Ruben have turned their grief into compassion, giving hope and happiness to so many innocent lives.

Kibo was never "just a pet." He was a cherished member of the family, whose unconditional love will forever remain in their hearts. We believe that every wagging tail and every grateful pair of eyes today was a silent blessing in Kibo's loving memory.

Loving Home Needed for an Adorable Little Kitten

Sometimes, all it takes is one kind heart to change a life. This adorable little male kitten was found beside Ramjasroy Hardware on Hill Cart Road, Kurseong. We are not sure whether he was lost or intentionally abandoned, but he is now safe with us.

He is affectionate, playful, and loves human company. We would have happily welcomed him into our family, but with 18 rescued dogs and cats already under our care, we are unable to provide him with the attention he truly deserves.

We are looking for a responsible and loving family who can give this little one a forever home filled with love and care.

Every Rescue is a Team Effort – Thank You for Standing With Us

The past few days have been emotionally overwhelming for all of us at Kurseong K9. Seeing this innocent dog suffer from such unimaginable cruelty broke our hearts, but witnessing the kindness and compassion of so many people has reminded us that humanity is still very much alive.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who stood by us during this rescue.

Our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Wangdi Gurung for informing us about the injured dog without delay. Your timely call made all the difference.

A sincere thank you to the members of Voice of People for standing with us during the dog's initial rescue and treatment. Your helping hands and unwavering support meant a great deal.

We are immensely grateful to Mr. Sekhar Kharga of Pets Care for providing the medicines and injections completely free of cost. Your generosity ensured that the dog received immediate medical attention when it needed it the most.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes to Mrs. Kishori Raut, who thoughtfully purchased a comfortable profile sheet for the dog so that he could rest with dignity and comfort during those painful hours.

Today, the lanes of Kurseong echoed with joy, not just from birthday cheers, but from the contented barks and happy tails of our street animals.

On this special day, Mr. Yonden Lama from River View Area, Pankhabari Road, Kurseong, chose to celebrate his birthday in the most beautiful way — by sponsoring a full feeding drive for the voiceless animals of our town.
