Thanesar Museum is located in the Premises of The Sheikh Chilli's Tomb at Kurukshetra, which is 8 km West of Pipli, a hamlet on the National Highway No. 1. and it has been built over the relics of Sheikh Chilli, an Iranian Saint, who died here, the spiritual teacher of Darashikoh, the later one was the eldest Son of Mughal Emperor Shahjahan (1627-1658). This tomb has been attached with madarsa (Is
lamic School) having many rooms of various dimensions. Out of these rooms, in one room artifacts yielded at Harsh ka Tila excavation (adjacent to Sheikh Chill's Tomb) a historical site, have been displayed known as Thanesar Musuem. While in another room, artifacts yielded at Bhagwanpura excavation, a protohistoric site 24 km north of Kurukshetra have been displayed known as Bhagwanpura gallery. Thanesar Museum depicts artifacts of six cultural periods covering the time span of about 2000 years i.e. to Circa 19th Century AD in the form of Terracotta animal figurines, Terracotta human figurines, coins, copper, iron, terracotta and other material objects, Beads, ornaments, weapon, dice, gamesman, seal & sealing's, terracotta wheels, stone sculptures, ladles, moulds pots & potsherds etc. Bhagwanpura gallery depicts artifacts of two cultural periods i.e. late Harappan & P.G.W and also their intermixing. The artifacts includes pot & potsherds, beads, Anthropomorphic figures, bones styles & points, copper implements, pieces of terracotta & faience bangles, Hopscotch, terracotta animal figurines, terracotta wheels, stone balls etc.
