The Dudhwa National Park is a national park in the Terai of Uttar Pradesh, India, and covers an area of 490.3 km2 (189.3 sq mi), with a buffer zone of 190 km2 (73 sq mi). It is part of the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve. It represents one of the few remaining examples of a highly diverse and productive Terai ecosystem, supporting a large number of endangered species, obligate species of tall wet grasslands

and species of restricted distribution. The area was established in 1958 as a wildlife sanctuary for swamp deer. Thanks to the efforts of Billy Arjan Singh the area was notified as a national park in January 1977.] In 1987, the park was declared a tiger reserve and brought under the purview of the ‘Project Tiger’. Together with the Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary and the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary it forms the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve. Like most of northern India, Dudhwa has an extreme humid subtropical with dry winters (CWa) type of climate. Summers are hot with temperatures rising up to 40 °C (104 °F). During winters from mid-October to mid-March, temperatures hover between 20 and 30 °C (68 and 86 °F). The months of February to April are ideal for visiting the park.

Dudhwa Tiger Reserve is one of the finest few remaining examples of the exceedingly diverse and productive Tarai eco-system. The northern edge of the reserve lies along the Indo-Nepal border and the southern boundary is marked by the river Suheli.
It is well known sanctuary of the swamp deer and is home to tigers, leopards, varieties of deer, antelopes, elephants, jackal, hyena etc, amid thick green forest and grassland. It is also a bird watchers' heaven. A large number of rhinos are also found here.

About Dudhwa National Park:
The Dudhwa National Park, better known as the Garden of Eden, is a home to more than 38 species of mammals, 90 species of fish, 400 species of birds and 16 species of reptiles. The green world of denizens was set up in the year 1958 as a wildlife sanctuary, especially with the goal of preserving swamp deer; however in January 1977, the sanctuary was rehabilitated into a national park. Presently, the park is a part of the 'Project Tiger' to conserve tigers. In the year 1987, the park was turned into a Tiger Reserve.
Main Attraction:
Spread over 490 square kilometers, the Dudhwa National Park has a treasure of wildlife for its visitors, but there are certain species which deserve a spot on visitors' must watch list. On the open stretches of grasslands, move the eye-balls in all possible directions to catch a sight of a Tiger, Rhinoceros, Barasingha (Swamp Deer), Crocodile and Bengal Florican. These make up the big five of the national park.

The national park is also inhabited by rattling diversity of birds, including Swamp Francolin, Bengal Florican and Great Slaty Woodpecker. Also, one can get to see sarus cranes, cormorants, heron, minivets, kingfishers, orioles, and bulbuls.
