Parvin Gaffar Shaikh, a dairy farmer from Goudgaon village in Dharashiv district, has transformed her dairy enterprise by adopting hydroponic fodder cultivation. With technical guidance from Sakhi Unique Resource Enterprise Pvt Ltd (SURE) and financial support through a Rang De , she established a 24-tray hydroponic fodder unit that now provides fresh, nutritious green fodder throughout the year. As a result, her livestock are healthier, milk production has increased, and her expenditure on purchasing fodder has reduced significantly.

Hydroponic fodder is an innovative technology that produces fresh green fodder in just 7–8 days while requiring less water, less land, and lower input costs than conventional fodder cultivation. It ensures a reliable supply of quality feed even during dry seasons, making it an ideal solution for smallholder dairy farmers facing fodder scarcity.

By enabling farmers to adopt sustainable innovations, SURE is strengthening dairy-based livelihoods, improving farm resilience, and creating pathways towards higher incomes and sustainable rural development.

Sakhi Unique Resource Enterprise Pvt Ltd (SURE) is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute , marking the beginning of a strategic partnership to advance sustainable and climate-resilient rural development.

Through this collaboration, SURE and TERI will work together to scale initiatives such as Lighting a Billion Livelihoods 2.0 (LaBL 2.0) and the SURE Sakhi Model. The partnership will focus on promoting climate resilience, clean energy adoption, women-led entrepreneurship, and enhanced rural livelihoods through joint fundraising, resource mobilization, technology dissemination, and knowledge exchange.

This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to building resilient communities by empowering women, fostering innovation, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities across rural India.

When Anjali Lomate from Rui village, Latur, first became a Sakhi with Sakhi Unique Resource Enterprise (SURE), the early days were far from easy. Introducing new ideas to her community — sanitary pads for menstrual health, Azolla beds for low-cost cattle feed, and hydroponics for growing fodder without soil — meant convincing people to try something they had never seen before.

She kept going. Slowly, the community began to trust her and adopt what she was promoting. Today, Anjali earns a steady income of around ₹5,000 a month — money that now supports her children's education and has improved her family's situation.

Her journey is a reminder that meaningful change in rural communities often starts with one determined woman willing to lead the way.

Meet Farzana Beg from Goudgaon village, Dharashiv district, Maharashtra, living proof that the right technology + market access can transform rural livelihoods.

Earlier, locally grown mangoes, curry leaves, and other produce in her village went to waste due to lack of processing and storage. With the Solar Dryer D500, adopted through Sakhi Unique Resource Enterprise, Farzana turned that loss into livelihood.

Rekha Didn't Wait for Change. She Became It. I SURE | Powering Livelihood

For years, Rekha's days were divided between her sewing machine and her family's farm, working hard, earning little, and dreaming of something more.
That changed when she joined SURE's training programme, where she learnt improved farming practices and essential health practices. She received knowledge of products related to these practices. But Rekha didn't keep that knowledge to herself.
She walked from home to home, spreading awareness in her village, talking to women about health, hygiene, and better ways to farm.
Then she went a step further. Rekha began helping women access sanitary napkins, breaking a silence that had lasted generations. She introduced them to products like hydroponics, showing that fresh, green fodder could grow with little water and no soil, even in drought-prone Latur.
And her courage paid off. In just 4 months, Rekha earned ₹38,000 in commission from product sales — income she built herself, on her own terms.
But ask Rekha what she's proudest of, and it isn't the money. It's the women who now come to her with questions, ideas, and dreams of their own.
One woman. One village. A ripple that's still spreading.

Strengthening Partnerships for Women Entrepreneurship

We are delighted to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sakhi Unique Resource Enterprises (SURE) and DeAsra to empower women entrepreneurs through enhanced skills, knowledge, and business support.

This collaboration aims to promote entrepreneurship awareness and business readiness among SURE's beneficiary communities through structured training, capacity-building, mentorship, and market linkage initiatives.

Through its Sakhi model, SURE reaches the last mile to deliver technology, knowledge, and enterprise support, enabling women to build sustainable livelihoods. As part of the AAHAR BAZAR cohort, SURE is committed to strengthening rural women-led food enterprises

The MoU was signed in the presence of Upamanyu Patil (Founder& Director, SURE), Vivek Shinde (Lead Food Business), Pradnya Godbole (CEO, DeAsra) and Asmita Tatke (Program Manager, DeAsra), marking the beginning of a meaningful partnership to create greater opportunities for rural women entrepreneurs.

Sakhi Unique Resource Enterprise Pvt Ltd (SURE) is pleased to partner with Intellecap under the SPACES programme funded by Shell Foundation to pilot an innovative low energy post harvest onion storage solution developed by Trane Technologies.

As the grassroots implementation partner, SURE facilitated farmer engagement and supported the installation of the first onion storage unit at Kardelhi village, Solapur, with Mr. Pawar, an onion farmer from the region. Over the next two months, we will closely monitor and compare test and control units to evaluate the technology's effectiveness in reducing post-harvest losses, extending onion shelf life, and improving income outcomes for farmers and Sakhis

Our Sakhi network will also play a crucial role in creating awareness among farmers and sharing learnings from the pilot, helping communities make informed decisions about post-harvest management solutions.

This collaboration is an important step towards promoting sustainable, affordable, and farmer-centric innovations that strengthen rural livelihoods and reduce food losses.
