Receiver/Buyer of Stolen Property Arrested in Malinithan Mandir Theft Case.

Lower Siang District Police have successfully apprehended a person from Assam in connection with the sensational theft of sacred artefacts from the historic Malinithan Mandir.

Acting swiftly on credible leads, investigators arrested Muhammad Ali Hussain, a resident of 3 No. Gandhinagar, Sissiborgaon, Silapathar, Dhemaji District, Assam. Hussain had allegedly purchased the stolen sacred articles from the main accused, Shri Toli Geyi.
The accused was constantly shifting locations in a desperate attempt to evade arrest.

On 17 July 2026, the net finally closed in. Under the close supervision of Shri Abraham Taying, Officer-in-Charge, PS Likabali, Sub-Inspector Kardo Ori, the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case, led the team that successfully apprehended Hussain.
He has been arrested under Section 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for dishonestly receiving stolen property.

Lower Siang District Police appeals the public, especially scrap dealers, to exercise due diligence and verify the source of any valuable, antique, or suspicious items before purchasing them from unknown persons. The market for stolen property fuels theft and burglary. When thieves and burglars find no ready buyers for their ill-gotten gains, such crimes are significantly deterred.

Malinithan Mandir, an ancient archaeological treasure of immense historical, cultural, and spiritual significance, continues to attract devotees and visitors alike. Lower Siang District Police remain steadfast in their commitment to safeguarding its sanctity and preserving our shared heritage.
Stay vigilant. Report suspicious activity. Together, we can protect our sacred heritage and keep our communities safe.

Much appreciation to the Lower Siang District Police team led by Insp. Abraham Taying, Officer-in-Charge, PS Likabali, for your team's grit and determination in conquering the treacherous and arduous route to reach Koyu Headquarters on foot while negotiating steep mountains, turbulent streams, steep gorges, and mudslide- and landslide-prone stretches. You and your team's courage, resilience, and dedication to duty under such extremely challenging conditions are truly admirable and inspirational.

It is pertinent to mention that the upper Ramle Banggo area under Nari–Koyu Assembly Constituency in Lower Siang District has been severely affected by recent flash floods, mudslides, and landslides, resulting in extensive damage to roads, bridges, culverts, water catchment areas, water supply systems, and electric poles, many of which have been damaged or washed away.

Koyu Circle remains completely cut off from the rest of the district. Despite these formidable challenges, the team has continued to discharge its duties with exemplary professionalism.

Jai Hind!
