What Women Report... Is Only the Tip of the Iceberg.
Our analysis of reports received through Pink Shakti Women Safety App from 500+ registered users across Uttar Pradesh reveals some concerning trends in the nature of crimes reported by women.
The most frequently reported concerns include:
1. Domestic Violence – the highest reported category, reflecting that abuse often begins within the four walls of a home.
2. Indecent Comments
3. Indecent Gestures
4. Chasing on Road (Stalking)
5. Eve Teasing
6. Sexual Harassment
7. Indecent Staring
8. Indecent Touch
9. Online Vulgar Content
These reports indicate that women continue to face harassment in homes, workplaces, educational institutions, public spaces, and even online environments.
However, an even greater concern remains:
Many women still choose not to report these incidents through official channels.
Fear of retaliation, social stigma, lack of awareness, concerns about confidentiality, lengthy procedures, and the belief that "nothing will change" continue to discourage reporting. As a result, countless incidents remain invisible in official statistics.
Every unreported incident represents not just an individual injustice but also a missed opportunity to prevent future violence.
Technology can simplify reporting, but creating safer environments require a collective responsibility. Organizations, educational institutions, law enforcement agencies, policymakers, and society must work together to build trust in reporting mechanisms and ensure that every survivor is heard with dignity and sensitivity.
At Pink Shakti we remain committed to promoting awareness, encouraging reporting, and empowering women through technology, legal awareness, and capacity-building initiatives because every report matters—and every voice deserves to be heard.
