World Environment Day 2026: Nature Giving Back to Nature ๐ฟ
As we celebrate World Environment Day, our team and community volunteers are collecting Rhizophora mangrove propagules (seeds) from the thriving mangrove forests of the Punnakayal Estuary, Tamil Nadu.
What makes this moment special is that these mangroves were planted between 2007 and 2012 through community-led restoration efforts. Today, nearly two decades later, these mature mangrove forests are producing thousands of propagules that will be used to restore additional degraded areas of the Vaippar estuary.
This is a reminder that ecological restoration is a long-term investment. The mangroves planted years ago are now helping us rejuvenate the Vaippar estuary, strengthen coastal resilience, support biodiversity, and sustain local livelihoods.
Seeing volunteers collect seeds from forests that were once barren mudflats is both humbling and inspiring. It demonstrates how community stewardship, patience, and collective action can create lasting environmental change.
On this World Environment Day, we celebrate not only planting trees but also nurturing ecosystems that regenerate and support future generations.
๐ฑ From restoration to regeneration.
๐ From community action to ecosystem recovery.
๐ฟ From planted saplings to seed-bearing forests.
