A proud milestone for DUVASU, Mathura and Uttar Pradesh!
The Battisi Goat and Braj Donkey have been officially registered in the National Register of Animal Genetic Resources by ICAR–NBAGR, Karnal.
This landmark recognition gives these locally adapted indigenous breeds a distinct scientific identity and strengthens the foundation for their conservation, genetic improvement and sustainable utilization.
The achievement is the outcome of two years of extensive field surveys, scientific characterization and engagement with livestock-rearing communities by the DUVASU scientific team led by Dr. Avneesh Kumar, with Dr. Deepak Sharma, Dr. S. P. Singh, Dr. Vikas Pathak and Dr. Mukul Anand.

Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and dignity at U.P. Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya Evam Go-Anusandhan Sansthan (DUVASU), Mathura. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abhijit Mitra unfurled the National Flag and extended Independence Day greetings to students, faculty, officers and staff of the University.
Addressing the University fraternity, Dr. Mitra said that Independence Day is not only an occasion to celebrate freedom but also a time to remember the sacrifices of freedom fighters and reaffirm our responsibilities towards the nation. Referring to the national vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’, he reminded students that they would be among those shaping India when the country completes 100 years of Independence.
He called upon students to look beyond degrees and careers and ask themselves how their education could help solve the problems facing the country. Universities, he said, must similarly go beyond awarding degrees and publishing research papers and ensure that knowledge creates meaningful impact in society.
Highlighting the special responsibility of veterinary and animal sciences, Dr. Mitra said that the livestock sector is closely linked with the livelihoods, nutrition and economic security of millions of rural families. He underlined the role of universities in animal health and productivity, disease prevention, One Health, food safety, antimicrobial resistance, animal welfare and climate resilience, along with the growing contribution of dairy science, fisheries, biotechnology and allied disciplines.
He stressed that university knowledge must move “from Laboratory to Land, from Research to Farmer and from Innovation to Impact.” Researchers, he said, should measure success not only by publications, patents and technologies but also by asking a simple question: “What changed because of our research?”
Dr. Mitra also emphasized that nation-building is not confined to classrooms and laboratories. Timely work, responsible use of public resources, transparency, accountability and respectful treatment of students are equally important contributions to building strong public institutions.
Calling for collective effort, he said that “Institution building is always a collective journey.” He urged every member of the University community to contribute towards making the institution more efficient, responsive and socially relevant.
Addressing students in particular, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the rapidly growing importance of Artificial Intelligence, genomics, biotechnology, digital agriculture and emerging technologies. His message to young professionals was simple: “Never Stop Learning.”
Quoting Swami Vivekananda—“Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man”—Dr. Mitra emphasized that education must develop not only knowledge and professional competence but also character and values. “Competence can make you successful, but character will determine how you use that success,” he said.
He also invoked the message of Ramcharitmanas—“कर्म प्रधान विश्व करि राखा, जो जस करइ सो तस फल चाखा”—to underline that the vision of a developed India can ultimately be realized only through individual and collective action.
Concluding his address, Dr. Mitra said, “Freedom has come to us as an inheritance; Viksit Bharat has to be built through our actions.” He called upon the entire University fraternity to work collectively, with excellence, integrity and a spirit of service, for the progress of farmers, livestock owners, society and the nation.

🇮🇳 HAR GHAR TIRANGA | A CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL PRIDE AT DUVASU

The DUVASU campus came alive with the colours and spirit of the Tricolour as the University organised a Har Ghar Tiranga Yatra on 14 August 2026.

🇮🇳 Led by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Dr Abhijit Mitra, the Yatra brought together students, faculty members, officers and staff in a vibrant collective expression of national pride, unity and responsibility.

With the Tricolour held high, the University community walked together across the campus—remembering with gratitude the courage and sacrifices of those who secured India’s freedom and reaffirming our shared responsibility towards the nation’s unity, integrity and progress.

For a University, education extends beyond classrooms and laboratories. It is also about nurturing responsible citizens—rooted in values, conscious of their duties and committed to contributing to society and the nation.

On the eve of Independence Day, the DUVASU family reaffirmed its commitment to the ideals represented by our Tricolour and to contributing, through education, science, service and innovation, to a stronger, self-reliant and developed India.

**DUVASU to Organise Special Lecture on Drug Abuse Prevention and Legal Awareness**

**Mathura, August 7, 2026:** U.P. Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya Evam Go-Anusandhan Sansthan (DUVASU), Mathura, will organise a special awareness lecture today under the nationwide **Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Pakhwada**, being observed from July 25 to August 8, 2026.

The programme will commence at 3:30 p.m. in the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Auditorium on the university campus.

Shri Shlok Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mathura, will deliver the keynote address on **“Protecting Youth from Narcotic Substances: Law and Awareness.”** He will apprise students and members of the university community of the harmful effects of substance abuse, relevant legal provisions, preventive measures and the role of citizens in combating drug-related problems.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abhijit Mitra stated that universities have an important responsibility to equip young people with accurate information and encourage them to make informed and responsible choices. The initiative seeks to sensitise students to the physical, psychological, social and legal consequences of substance abuse and inspire them to contribute to building a healthy and drug-free society.

Students, faculty members, officers and other employees of the university will participate in the programme. Through this initiative, DUVASU reaffirms its commitment to the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and to promoting responsible citizenship and the holistic well-being of its students.

DUVASU signed MoU with CSIR-CIMAP, Lucknow to Advance Veterinary Research and Medicinal Plant-Based Innovations

U.P. Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya Evam Go-Anusandhan Sansthan (DUVASU), Mathura, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the CSIR–Central Institute of Medicinal & Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP), Lucknow, marking a significant milestone in promoting collaborative research and innovation in veterinary science and medicinal plant-based technologies.

The MoU was signed on behalf of DUVASU by Dr. A. K. Madan, Registrar; Dr. Vikas Pathak, Dean, College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry; and Dr. Sanjeev Singh, Director of Extension Education. Representing CSIR-CIMAP, the agreement was signed by Dr. Debabrata Chanda, Scientist-F, CSIR-CIMAP, Lucknow, International Fellow (ICMR-DHR), and DBT-CREST Postdoctoral Fellow at King's College London, on behalf of the Director, CSIR-CIMAP.

The partnership aims to foster collaborative research for the identification and characterization of novel bioactive molecules derived from medicinal and aromatic plants for veterinary applications. The collaboration will focus on developing innovative, plant-based therapeutic interventions to combat animal diseases, improve livestock health and welfare, enhance productivity, and promote sustainable livestock production systems.

The MoU also provides a framework for joint research projects, technology development, scientific knowledge exchange, capacity building, and interdisciplinary collaboration between the two institutions. By integrating expertise in veterinary science with advances in medicinal and aromatic plant research, the partnership is expected to accelerate the development of scientifically validated, eco-friendly, and sustainable solutions for the livestock sector.

Special Lecture on Drug Addiction Awareness Organized under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Pakhwada
Under the dynamic leadership of Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Uttar Pradesh Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya Evam Go-Anusandhan Sansthan (DUVASU), Mathura, organized a Special Lecture on Drug Addiction Awareness under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Pakhwada (25 July–8 August 2026) at the Deen Dayal Auditorium on 4 August 2026.
The keynote lecture, titled "Nasha: Why We Start, Why We Get Stuck, How We Get Out," was delivered by eminent psychiatrist Dr. Anindo Mitra, MBBS, MD (Psychiatry), Consultant Psychiatrist, Athena Behavioural Health, Gurugram. Addressing students, faculty members, officers, and staff, Dr. Mitra provided a comprehensive overview of the psychological, biological, and social factors that contribute to substance use and addiction. He explained the early warning signs of addiction, commonly abused substances, the neurobiology of dependence, associated physical and mental health complications, and evidence-based strategies for prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and sustained recovery.
Emphasizing that addiction is a preventable and treatable health condition, Dr. Mitra highlighted the importance of early identification, timely intervention, family support, professional counselling, and medical care in helping individuals overcome substance dependence. He also encouraged young people to seek help without hesitation and stressed the need to eliminate the stigma associated with mental health and addiction treatment.
On the occasion, the university administration reaffirmed DUVASU's commitment to the national vision of a Drug-Free India under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Students were encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyles, make informed and responsible choices, and serve as ambassadors of awareness against substance abuse within their communities.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, officers, and staff. An engaging interactive question-and-answer session followed the lecture, during which participants discussed issues related to mental health, substance use disorders, preventive measures, and available support systems.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge by all participants to contribute towards building a healthy, drug-free society, reinforcing the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

DUVASU hosted FAO representative for International academic interaction
U.P. Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya Evam Go-Anusandhan Sansthan (DUVASU), Mathura, under the leadership of Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abhijit Mitra, organized an International Academic Interaction and Invited Lecture by Mr. Takayuki Hagiwara, FAO Representative in India, on the theme "The Future of the Livestock Sector: FAO's Perspective in the Indian Context”.
Addressing faculty members, scientists, researchers, students, interns and other stakeholders, Mr. Hagiwara highlighted the critical role of the livestock sector in ensuring food and nutritional security, generating rural employment, and supporting sustainable agricultural development. He emphasized that the future of livestock production lies in science-based decision-making, climate-resilient production systems, innovation, and stronger collaboration among universities, governments, industry and international organizations.
Appreciating India's rich civilizational heritage and unique culture, Mr. Hagiwara observed that the country's enduring values, knowledge systems, and spirit of innovation position it to play an increasingly significant role in addressing global challenges. He expressed confidence that *India will be one of the principal drivers of the world's future*, particularly in the areas of sustainable agriculture, food systems, and livestock development.
The interactive session witnessed enthusiastic participation from undergraduate and postgraduate students, diploma students, researchers, and faculty members, who engaged in discussions on emerging trends, global best practices, and opportunities for international collaboration in livestock development and veterinary sciences.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Abhijit Mitra thanked Mr. Hagiwara for visiting DUVASU and sharing FAO's global perspectives with the University's academic community. It was a privilege to welcome the Probationary IAS Officers of Uttar Pradesh to U.P. Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya Evam and Go-Anusandhan Sansthan (DUVASU), Mathura as part of their educational-cum-exposure visit.

The officers were introduced to the University's academic programmes, research achievements, extension initiatives, and state-of-the-art clinical and diagnostic facilities.
