*Awareness Program on "Balanced use of Fertilizers" Organized in Shamli*
The ICAR-Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research, Modipuram, Meerut, organized a public awareness campaign on the "Balanced use of Fertilizers" under the 'Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav' (MGMG) initiative in Lak village of Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh. A total of 38 farmers actively participated in the event, where experts emphasized soil testing-based nutrient management to maintain soil health and enhance crop productivity. Dr. Devendra Kumar, Pr. Scientists highlighted that applying fertilizers tailored to soil and crop needs improves nutrient efficiency, reduces cultivation costs, and protects the environment, while warning against the excessive use of urea and DAP. Additionally, Dr. Amit Kumar Patil discussed the role of farm mechanization and precision farming technologies in ensuring uniform fertilizer distribution, minimizing nutrient loss, and improving overall crop performance.
Focusing on sustainable agricultural practices, Dr. Pramod Kumar, expressed concern over the indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers and urged farmers to adopt organic alternatives such as vermicompost, farmyard manure, green manure, and fermented organic manure from CBG plants. He noted that integrating these organic inputs alongside practices like crop diversification and Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) lowers chemical dependence, restores soil fertility, and boosts farmers' income. Program concluded with the distribution of Dhaincha seeds for green manuring, along with Bio-NPK and Bio-Phos bottles, motivating farmers to adopt eco-friendly and cost-effective farming methods for long-term agricultural sustainability.
