Celebration of Global Tiger Day 2026 at Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve

Theme: Securing the Future of Tigers with Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities at the Heart & Four Decades of Namdapha Tiger Reserve

Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve celebrated Global Tiger Day 2026 with great enthusiasm through two days of sports and knowledge-based competitions (27–28 July) among CWLW Tigers, Kamlang Tigers, Mehao Gibbons, and Namdapha Tigers, followed by the valedictory function on 29 July.

The programme brought together officers, frontline staff, and conservation personnel to celebrate teamwork, sportsmanship, and the shared commitment to Tiger conservation. Winners of the football, volleyball, badminton, species identification quiz, and Best Camera Trap Photograph Competition were felicitated during the ceremony.

As Namdapha marks four decades as a Tiger Reserve, the celebration reaffirmed our commitment to protecting tigers, conserving biodiversity, and strengthening conservation through the dedication of frontline staff and the support of indigenous peoples and local communities.

Together, we celebrate. Together, we conserve. Together, we secure the future of tigers. 🐅🌿

Meet Limnonectes motijheel - the rare mud-nesting fanged frog described from Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve.

Discovered by researchers from the Wildlife Institute of India, this tiny marvel builds secret underground nests, calls with a unique ‘wooooak’ sound, and sports fang-like jaws. Found in Namdapha Tiger Reserve, it’s a reminder of the hidden biodiversity of Northeast India and the importance of conserving forest-floor habitats.
