Along with the rest of the country, Mokokchung Headquarters celebrated the 80th Independence Day, 2026, with great enthusiasm at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
The ceremonial parade was reviewed by Shri Vesupra Kezo, NPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung. National flag was hoisted by Special Guest, Shri Metsubo Jamir, Hon’ble Minister, RD & SIRD, Government of Nagaland. The parade was commanded by Smti Zareni Yanthan, NPS, Assistant Commandant, 2nd NAP Battalion, Alichen. A total of 11 parade contingents participated in the ceremonial parade.
In the evening session, an exhibition football match was held between DC XI and SP XI. The match was keenly contested, with SP XI emerging victorious by a score of 1–0.
The celebrations concluded on a spirited note, reflecting the patriotic fervour and enthusiasm of the people of Mokokchung in commemorating the nation’s 80th Independence Day.

Mokokchung Police arrested two persons and recovered the following arms and ammunition.
02 (two) AK rifles along with 03 (three) magazines — country-made.
03 (three) .32 pistols along with 03 (three) magazines — country-made.
01 (one) live .32 round.
In connection with the recovery, a case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Arms Act, and further investigation is underway.

In view of the forthcoming Independence Day 2026 celebrations, a Security Coordination Meeting was held on 10.08.2026 at the Conference Hall of the S.P. Office, Mokokchung, under the chairmanship of the Sr. S.P., Mokokchung. The meeting deliberated on various security arrangements and measures to ensure the peaceful and incident-free conduct of the celebrations across the district. All concerned security agencies were briefed on the Joint MVCP to be conducted.

On 28th July 2026, World Hepatitis Day awareness programme was organized at New Reserve, DEF Mokokchung by the National Health Mission (NHM) and the National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme (NVHCP). The event was held under the global theme, "Hepatitis: Let's Break It Down," highlighting the importance of raising awareness, promoting early testing, and encouraging timely treatment of viral hepatitis.

Border Coordination Meeting Strengthens
Assam-Nagaland Cooperation
On 10 July 2026 a Border Coordination Meeting between the district administrations of Jorhat, Assam and Mokokchung, Nagaland was held at the Office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mangkolemba.
The meeting was led by the Deputy Commissioner, Jorhat, and the Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung. Representatives of the Village Councils of Longchem, Yachang C, Aokum, Aosungkum and Aosenden, along with members of the Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland), also attended.
During the meeting, the Village Councils raised concerns regarding alleged encroachment of land by Assam in the border areas. Both district administrations agreed to maintain status quo at the Aosenden village border in accordance with the agreement signed by the Chief Secretaries of Assam and Nagaland on 31 July 2021. The Jorhat district administration also agreed to conduct a joint verification of the reported encroached land in Aokum village within one week.
The meeting further resolved to continue goodwill missions, cultural exchanges and other confidence-building initiatives to strengthen peace and harmony among the border communities.
The Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung, thanked the Jorhat delegation for participating in the meeting and appreciated the close coordination between the Jorhat and Mokokchung Police in tackling crimes along the inter-state border. He stressed that unnecessary provocation by security forces should be avoided to prevent any escalation of law and order issues. He also urged media organisations to refrain from publishing unverified reports on border matters, noting that such reports create unnecessary tension among the border communities.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to maintaining peace, mutual trust and effective coordination for the welfare of the people living along the Assam-Nagaland border.

On 26.06.2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan programme was successfully conducted at DC Conference hall Mokokchung, with the objective of creating awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The event carried the theme "Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan", emphasizing that a developed India begins with healthy and responsible citizens.
