Mr. Balwant Singh, Coordinator, Resource Centre for Interventions on Violence Against Women (RCI-VAW), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), facilitated sessions on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 (PWDVA), the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 (PCMA), Personal Laws relating to Marriage, and the Special Marriage Act, 1954 during the 3-Day Training Programme for SHG Leaders from Udaipur and Chittorgarh Districts, organised by Chaitanya Organisation at the CASA Resource Centre, Udaipur, Rajasthan, on 21–22 July 2026.

The programme strengthened the capacities of SHG leaders to support women and girls facing violence and enhanced awareness of legal rights and access to justice.

Forty-two years ago, a remarkable journey began. Today, as the Special Cell marks this milestone, we celebrate not just the years, but the people who have given those years meaning.

To everyone who has been part of this journey-past and present-thank you. Thank you for your compassion, your courage, your resilience, and your unwavering commitment to women and children. Together, we have faced difficult moments, celebrated meaningful victories, and continued to believe that every act of support can change a life.

The Special Cell's story is woven from the commitment of so many individuals who have walked alongside one another with hope, empathy, and determination.

Mr. Balwant Singh, Coordinator, Resource Centre for Interventions on Violence Against Women (RCI-VAW), TISS, participated as a speaker at Jan Nyay Samvaad 2026 – Bihar State Consultation on Gender-Based Violence and Child Protection, convened by Janman People's Foundation through its Jan Nyay Abhiyan, in collaboration with the Gender Resource Centre, Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) and UNFPA, on 27 June 2026 at CNLU, Patna.

He spoke on "Psychosocial Support to Survivors, Social Work Interventions and Survivor Support Systems," highlighting the importance of survivor-centred psychosocial support and the Special Cell for Women model, which places trained social workers within police settings to provide integrated support to women experiencing violence. The consultation brought together representatives from the judiciary, police, legal services authorities, academia, civil society, and frontline practitioners to deliberate on strengthening responses to gender-based violence and child protection.

Strengthening Counselling and Documentation Skills of Jaankaar Didis

The third and final phase of the Jaankaar Didi Training Programme was held from 22–25 June 2026 at the Women's Resource and Training Centre, Chaitanya, Rajgurunagar, Pune.

The training focused on counselling skills, documentation and reporting, the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, and case discussions based on participants' field experiences. These sessions strengthened the capacity of Jaankaar Didis to provide empathetic and rights-based support to women facing violence.

The sessions were facilitated by Ms. Divya Taneja and Ms. Pratibha Gajbhiye, Regional Coordinators, Special Cells, Maharashtra.

Glad to share that the National Association of Professional Social Workers in India (NAPSWI) invited Mr. Balwant Singh, Coordinator, RCI-VAW, TISS, as a speaker for the 8th Webinar of the Legal Literacy Series held on 13 June 2026.

The webinar focused on the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, the role of Dowry Prohibition Officers, and two important provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including Section 80 (Dowry Death) and Sections 85–86 (Cruelty against Married Women).

The session witnessed active participation from students, practitioners, and professionals committed to promoting legal awareness and strengthening survivor-centric responses to violence against women.

Strengthening community action and support systems to respond to violence against women.

The 3rd and concluding batch of the 2-day Training Programme for Block Resource Persons (BRPs) of the Gender Resource Centre (GRC), under Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihoods Mission (CGSRLM), was conducted on 15–16 May 2026 at CMTC, SriKhedi, Raipur.

The training focused on key issues including gender-based violence, counselling and communication skills, cyber and online violence, provisions under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PWDVA), 2005, and coordination mechanisms with various stakeholders for timely support and intervention.

The sessions were facilitated by Balwant Singh, Coordinator, RCI-VAW, TISS, on the invitation of Chaitanya, Technical Partner of Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihoods Mission.

The programme witnessed active participation, field-based reflections, and collective learning aimed at strengthening community-level responses and support systems for women facing violence.
