🚨 Roadkill Alert | Aarey Milk Colony 🚨
🛑 Species Lost: Indian Flap-shelled Turtle
📍 Location: Aarey Milk Colony Main Road
📆 Date: 2nd September 2025
Today, we lost yet another innocent life to our busy roads — a harmless Indian Flap-shelled Turtle, crushed under a vehicle at Aarey. These turtles are protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, meaning they are as important to protect as a tiger or elephant.
Aarey is home to countless species — mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians — and our roads cut right through their natural habitat. As urbanization spreads, these animals are forced to cross dangerous roads just to survive.
🟠 Why This Matters:
The Indian Flap-shelled Turtle plays a vital role in maintaining wetland ecosystems.
Roadkills are a leading cause of unnatural wildlife deaths in urban green zones like Aarey.
Every loss is a reminder that coexistence is not just a word — it's a responsibility.
🟢 How You Can Help:
✔️ Drive slow, especially near forested areas like Aarey.
✔️ Watch out for wildlife crossing, especially during or after rains.
✔️ Report injured animals to local wildlife rescue teams.
✔️ Raise your voice for better road signage and wildlife corridors in Aarey.
📢 Let’s not wait for another life to be lost. Let’s make Aarey safe — for all who call it home.
