Institute for Exceptional Children

Institute for Exceptional Children We have conducted intensive teacher-training programmes on child mental health for 200 MCGB as well as mainstream school teachers.

Established since 1979, IEC provides psycho-diagnostic, psycho-educational, psycho-social counselling and psychiatric services to children, adolescents, and their families. In the past we have completed projects for UNICEF to identify scholastic backwardness among 1800 children studying in schools run by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Bombay (MCGB) and provided counselling and remedial educa

tional interventions for them. Through the financial support of our donors, we have even provided our services to children and families from lower income groups. Since January, 2017, we have partnered with The Live Love Laugh Foundation to implement their 'You are NOT Alone' School Program for students and teachers to promote awareness of depression and prevent suicide. At IEC, we believe that each individual has a right to psychological wellbeing and hence, should not be denied service due to genuine inability to pay. We believe in promoting the cause of ‘Mental Health for All’. Therefore, we use a sliding scale for fee structure and offer our services to children, adolescents and families of middle as well as low socio-economic backgrounds.

Kids don’t just listen to the news, they read our nervous systems. 🧠✨

In a fast-paced, high-stimulus city like Mumbai, our homes are meant to be decompression chambers. But when we let the constant, loud hum of the 24-hour news cycle flood our living rooms, our children absorb that ambient stress. To a child, a parent's anxious sigh or tense posture over a smartphone screen feels like an immediate, local threat.

The micro-steps are tiny, structural boundaries to help you protect your home’s baseline energy. Because we cannot co-regulate our kids when our own batteries are running on empty.

Let’s build a quieter, safer space for our families, one evening at a time. 🤍

If parenting had a résumé, it would be one of the most demanding roles out there.

No breaks. No clear job description. And a level of emotional labour that often goes unseen.

This Global Day of Parents, we wanted to do two things:
Celebrate you, and remind you that you don’t have to do all of this perfectly.

Because behind every “good parent” is not someone who gets it right all the time,
but someone who shows up, repairs, learns, and keeps going.

The truth is:
Your child doesn’t need a perfect parent.
They need a present one.

Here’s to doing this messy, meaningful job with a little more support, a little less pressure, and a lot more self-compassion. 🤍

Tag a parent who needs to hear this today.

When 23 million girls drop out of school annually upon reaching menarche, the primary barrier isn't just the lack of a kit. It is the overwhelming weight of internalized shame, a lack of preparation, and an ecosystem that speaks in whispers.

True Menstrual Hygiene Management requires the psychological safety to navigate this milestone without fear as part of it.

This Menstrual Hygiene Day, let's change the environment:

Let's strip away the code words, start the science, and build a safe harbor for every child. Because hygiene belongs to the body, and dignity belongs to the mind. 💜

When work (and life) gets busy, it’s easy to get caught up in our heads. 🧠

So, we asked our team: How do you bring yourself back to the present moment?

From secret under-the-desk fidgets to brain-scrambling coordination tricks, here is a list of our team’s absolute favorite physical and cognitive grounding strategies.

The most important reframe: Challenging moments are developmental invitations. You are not failing; you are raising a complex, feeling person. Save this for those tough days! 🤍

Perfection is a pedestal, but presence is a gift.

A "Good Enough" mother or mother figure isn't someone who does it all; she is someone who shows up, stays present, and provides a safe harbor, even when the house or schedule is in chaos. By prioritizing a caregiver's mental well-being, we inherently secure a child’s future.

Join our Initiative:
Look past the tasks and see the human. Whether it’s your mother, a guardian, or a mentor, tell them they are more than enough.

Recovery doesn’t fail because people aren’t trying.

It often struggles because the environment around them hasn’t changed.

When families are left out of the process, misunderstandings, stress, and old patterns can quietly interfere with progress.

Family counselling helps bridge this gap, by building understanding, shifting communication, and creating a more supportive space for recovery.

Because healing isn’t just personal.
It’s shaped by the relationships we return to every day.
