India’s digital revolution has given us UPI, one of the world’s fastest-growing payment systems - yet millions of Indian homes still don’t have a formal address.

In Bihar’s recent voter roll, nearly 3 lakh people were listed under “House Number 0.” It’s not a clerical error; it’s a mirror to a deeper governance gap.
Without a national, geocoded address system, citizens remain half-visible to the state - affecting welfare delivery, logistics, taxation, and even the integrity of electoral rolls.

Studies estimate India loses $10–14 billion each year due to poor addressing and inefficient last-mile delivery. As the 2026 Census approaches, we have a once-in-a-generation chance to fix this - by mapping every household, assigning a unique digital address, and linking it to public databases responsibly.

If we can build a system to identify every transaction through UPI, we can surely build one to identify every home through a National Address Registry.

Democracy, after all, begins at home - but for that home to truly count, it must first have a number.
