GAMAC's Flood Relief Drive Reaches Around 800 Families Across Sivasagar

Sivasagar, Assam, August 26, 2026 : The Greater Assam Motorcycle Adventure Club (GAMAC) carried out a large-scale flood relief distribution drive in Sivasagar on August 1, delivering essential supplies to around 800 families affected by this year's floods in Assam. The drive covered several of the district's worst-hit areas, with GAMAC members travelling directly into flood-affected villages to distribute aid and meet with local families.
To reach as many households as possible in a single day, GAMAC split its relief operation into two teams, each assigned a separate set of villages.
The first team, led by GAMAC president Dayan Islam, distributed supplies in Sotial Gaon, Dhonduli, Tengapukhuri and Goriyapothar. The second, led by club secretary Kaustav Saikia, covered Khanamukh, Mukalani, Dimouruguri and Chintamani Garh. Together, the two teams reached eight villages, coordinating their efforts to ensure relief materials went directly to affected communities rather than through intermediaries.
The relief packages were built around three broad categories. On hygiene, families received bleaching powder, phenyl, Dettol, mosquito repellents and nets, candles, bathing and detergent soap, bedsheets and tarpaulins, supplies intended to help households manage damaged or waterlogged homes and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks common after flooding. On food and water, GAMAC provided rice, dal, cooking oil, salt, turmeric, soyabean, muri, milk, packaged drinking water and biscuits, covering the immediate nutritional needs of displaced families.
Beyond hygiene and food, GAMAC distributed clothing, educational kits for students, sanitary pads for women and diapers for babies. The club said these additions were intentional, aimed at groups whose needs are often overlooked in disaster relief: women who lose access to hygiene supplies, children whose schooling is disrupted, and infants who require specific care.
The drive reflects a broader shift for GAMAC, which was founded as a motorcycle touring and adventure club but has taken on a more active community welfare role during the floods. Organisers said the initiative was intended to contribute, even in a modest way, to the recovery of Sivasagar's flood-affected families, many of whom are still dealing with the aftermath of damage to homes and livelihoods.
