What makes someone a reader? Is it the number of books they finish, the genres they explore, or simply the joy of getting lost in a story?

With 𝐑𝐊 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬, 𝘢 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘱𝘰𝘥𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘣𝘺 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘒𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘢 𝘓𝘪𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘺, we’re starting conversations with people who read because they want to - people for whom books are not an assignment, but a source of curiosity, connection and joy.

She is the curator and founder of 𝐒𝐰𝐚𝐩𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐍𝐚𝐠𝐩𝐮𝐫, a reader community that began with 21 people and has grown into a community of 800+ readers over the years. What started as a simple idea - bring a book, exchange it, and talk about it - has become a decade-long community that brings people together through their love of reading.

In our first episode of RK Connects, we chat with Sukhada about her journey as a reader, reading for pleasure, building communities around books, the joys of being a reader, and what happens when a personal love for books grows into something much bigger.

Full Circles 💫

In 2021, Reading Keeda was part of the 2nd cohort of Community Collectives , and since then, we’ve been proud alumni of this wonderful community of grassroots organisations and leaders.

Five years later, in 2026, the circle came around beautifully. When we launched our first cohort of “Kitabon ki Duniya”, 8 members from 4 Community Collectives alumni organisations became part of our very first cohort. 📚🌱

From being learners within a community to creating a space where others could learn, reflect, and build their own children’s libraries - it feels like a lovely full circle.

Here’s to learning together, sharing generously, finding our way back to each other and keeping the circle growing. ✨

At the request of the team at Abhyudaya Global Village School , we hosted a mini training session for a team of 3 of them at Reading Keeda Library.

The two-hour session on a Monday afternoon was a little bit of everything - games, discussions, a Read-Aloud, questions, reflections and conversations around making libraries more joyful, engaging and child-centred. 🌱

Rather than simply talking about what a child-friendly library can look like, we invited the team to experience a few of these approaches themselves.

We loved spending the afternoon with them, and even more, hearing their reflections on the session. ❤️

🎥 Here’s what the Abhyudaya Global School team had to say about their experience.

🌻 Kitabon ki Duniya | Day 4

The final day of our first residential workshop began with Book Talks by our participants, each organisation sharing a book that stayed with them during the workshop.

Then came किताबों का दवाखाना with Susmita Bapat, where we learnt to care for books by covering and repairing damaged ones. This was followed by किताबों की पहचान with Pallavi Bapat Pinge, exploring magazines as meaningful resources in a children’s library.

During our final Quiet Reading Time, participants updated their Book Cards, finished books they had been reading for three days, and some even squeezed in a few last-minute reads! 📖

The afternoon was about looking ahead—exploring next steps with Aditi Baitule, reflecting on the four-day journey, and thinking about what we want to take back to our organisations and children.

We closed with each organisation receiving a curated set of 25 books, followed by a final circle of sharing, reflections and songs. ❤️

Four days. Many books. Many conversations. And hopefully, a few new ways of looking at libraries, books and reading. 🌱📚

🌻 Kitabon ki Duniya | Day 3

Day 3 took us deeper into the world of expression and the joy of reading. We began with prayer, reflections and a Book Talk with Aditi Baitule , before exploring Reading for Pleasure with Pallavi Bapat - what makes reading enjoyable, voluntary and meaningful.

Then came किताबों का खेल with Aditi - a playful exploration of books through games, followed by Quiet Reading Time: slowing down, choosing a book and simply enjoying the act of reading.

The afternoon was filled with creativity through कला का समय with प्राजक्ता and गम्मत गाणी गाऊ या with Madhura Kunte, celebrating the joy of art, songs and expression. We then explored the many genres and forms of children’s books through किताबी बायोस्कोप with Pallavi.

We ended the day by turning learning into practice. Participants worked in pairs to design their own Read-Aloud sessions, thinking not just about which book to choose, but how to create an engaging experience around it. 📚🌱

🌻 Kitabon ki Duniya | Day 2

Day 2 took us deeper into the fascinating world of children’s books.

We began with a Book Talk, followed by a fun game and lively discussion led by Pallavi , exploring the many physical forms of books and what a book itself has to offer beyond the story inside.

Rajeshwari Deo from enthralled us with her storytelling and introduced us to the history, nuances and fundamentals of the art of storytelling.

The afternoon brought a special opportunity: a Read-Aloud of Rikki with children from . Children participated, asked questions while educators observed and reflected on what makes a reading experience truly child-centred.

We ended with a larger question: What is our role as library educators?

Through reflection and sharing, we explored how our role is not to fill children with answers, but to open windows, nurture curiosity and create spaces where children can discover, question and make meaning for themselves. 📚🌱

Two days in, and we already have so many questions to carry forward - and explore together. ❤️

Katha Kingdom

Day 1

18 educators. 8 organisations. A room full of books. And four days to dive, question, explore and reimagine reading spaces and libraries for children. 🌱📚

Day 1 was about opening doors—to the programme, to each other’s experiences, and most importantly, to the world of children’s books.

We began with an icebreaker, set our shared norms, and revisited the 12-year journey of Reading Keeda Library. Then came something simple yet radical: time to simply be with books. 📖

During Quiet Reading Time, participants explored the library, browsed books and chose one that stayed with them.

We then asked: “Why read?”
Why do we read? Why should children read? What makes someone a reader?

Through energisers, Read-Alouds, Book Talks and Book Cards, the day moved between play, reflection, reading and conversation. 🎶

Day 1 reminded us: a reading culture doesn’t begin with telling children to read. It begins by creating spaces where reading feels joyful, meaningful and alive. 🌱

And this is only the beginning. ❤️

Nothing makes us happier than seeing kids light up as they discover the magic of books.

Page by page, their excitement grows; and so does their love for reading. And when parents share this excitement with us, we feel extremely happy.

A big thank you to all those parents who keep sending us joy through their feedback, because it's the joy that motivates us to bring more books to the shelves ❤️📚
