A children's library with a vision to make books accessible to all children. "Everyone is a reader. Some j"Everyone is a reader. We are closed on Mondays.

Some just haven't found their favourite book yet." Reading Keeda Library is a children's library that works in a not-for-profit model, with a vision to make books accessible to all children irrespective of their age, gender, caste, religion and economic background. We are an initiative of Pathimba Foundation, registered as not-for-profit Section 8 company. In the last 10 years, we have worked wit

h around 500 children through all our events, session and collaborations. We have a collection of 6500 books and magazines in English, Marathi and Hindi for all children in the age group of 1 year to 18 years old. We also have a collection of parenting books and magazines. We conduct monthly offline Read-Alouds and Readers' Circle. We also run a free online Teens' Book Club, open for all teenagers. Right in the heart of Nagpur, Reading Keeda Library (Nagpur Centre) brings our 12-year journey to life. As our flagship initiative, this space is built on one simple but powerful belief: every child deserves the freedom to fall in love with books - without the pressure of marks, exams, or classrooms hovering overhead. 💫

It is a lively community space where children gather to read, imagine, question, create, and belong. From discovering their next favorite story to joining programs like Toddler Talk, Readers’ Circle, and the Teens’ Book Club, children find not just books here, but a second home.🌻

We’ve intentionally built this as a joyful, “no-shushing” library space - warm, inclusive, and open to every child, regardless of age, background, or socio-economic reality. Because when children read for pleasure, confidence grows, imagination expands, and learning follows naturally.🌟

In India’s urban slums, migrant families face a harsh reality of insecure housing, frequent relocation, and daily survival struggles. For many children growing up in these environments, education is often disrupted, and childhood itself can feel out of reach.

Tigra, a slum community in Gurgaon, reflects many of these challenges. In March 2025, Reading Keeda started a free weekend Community Library here with a simple intention: to bring back spaces of wonder, learning, and belonging for children who rarely have access to them.

𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐝, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝-𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐝𝐬, 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲. The intention has been to make it a safe space of inclusion and expression where ~50 out-of-school children can explore their imagination, express themselves freely, and experience the joy of simply being children.

Fitting pieces together!🧩🧩

We spent an incredible, screen-free day at the library for our Jigsaw Puzzle Fun event! With 13 passionate participants - spanning both children and adults- our tables were packed with focus, teamwork, and a lot of laughter.

We laid out 12 to 15 different types of puzzles to spark curiosity at various levels, ranging from simple 3-piece sets for the little ones to 45, 70, and a mammoth 1,000-piece puzzle!

The ultimate highlight? A group of adults (including our coordinator Mohit and Pallavi) completely lost track of time trying to crack the 1,000-piece challenge. While the final picture wasn't quite completed by the end of the day, the beautiful spirit of collaboration, the deep investment of time, and the pure joy of trying made it an absolute win💫

Sometimes, the fun isn’t just in finishing the puzzle - it’s in the conversations you have while finding the right pieces.

After 10 years of running Reading Keeda in Nagpur, one thing became clear: every community deserves joyful reading spaces for their children. That’s how our program, Kitabon Ki Duniya (KKD), began.

Through KKD, we partner with like-minded organizations to strengthen their teams in building children’s libraries and reading programs within their own communities. From book curation and library management to nurturing a love for reading for joy, the program focuses on creating sustainable reading spaces rooted in community.

The next chapter of our story is officially unfolding.

From 2026 onwards, we are stepping into our most intentional era yet. We are incredibly proud to see "Kitabon ki Duniya" move beyond its initial pilot stage into a full, official launch! This children's literature and engagement focused program is 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬.

At the same time, our digital community is thriving. 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞, 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐛 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 - 𝐓𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛 - 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞; 𝟓𝟎 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭-𝐮𝐩𝐬! Looking at the physical space, our goal is to expand beyond the bookshelves. 𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐚 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐚𝐠𝐩𝐮𝐫, a vibrant hub where locals can gather, exchange ideas, create, and build meaningful human connections.

Between 2023 and 2025, Reading Keeda grew across spaces, formats, and communities. We realized that to foster a true "Reading for Pleasure" movement, we had to meet our readers wherever they were.

To make reading seamlessly fit into busy modern schedules, we moved into a much larger space, 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝟗 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐚 𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝟔 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐚 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤. Alongside this, we introduced our 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, ensuring that a lack of time would never stand between a child and their favorite book 🌈

But our growth wasn't just physical; it was deeply holistic. We launched diverse child-centric initiatives beyond reading, including toddler-parent poetry sessions - "गम्मत गाणी गाऊ या", reading circles for tweens - "Readers Circle", and mental wellbeing workshops for children - "Little Minds, Big Emotions", all aimed towards nurturing children's emotional and creative minds💫

We also 𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐝 "किताबों की दुनिया" - 𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲-𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 - 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, helping us explore how reading-centered frameworks can grow. As a part of this pilot, we also conducted a residential workshop for "किताबों की दुनिया" with the alumni of Community Collectives - creating space for deeper engagement, exchange, and collective reflection among organizations working closely with children and communities🌻

At the same time, Reading Keeda stepped beyond Nagpur to begin a 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧 𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐥𝐮𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐆𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐨𝐧 - carrying the spirit of the library into a completely new setting 📖

The years between 2020 and 2022 tested resilience in ways none of us saw coming. The world slowed down and uncertainty became the norm. Yet, we knew we wanted our library to remain a space of solace, familiarity, and connection for our readers. And so, 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝 - keeping stories, learning, and community alive when they were needed most. 📚

In 2022, we also stepped into a new phase of growth. We formalised our mission by 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟖 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 — strengthening our commitment to building a lasting reading movement.

Amidst all this, one of our most meaningful chapters unfolded beyond our own walls. Believing that every child deserves access to books, we started a 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐊𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐚, 𝐚𝐧 𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐥𝐮𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐚𝐠𝐩𝐮𝐫. 🌱✨

Looking back, these three years were shaped by uncertainty, courage, adaptation, and an unwavering belief that books must continue reaching children — no matter what. ❤️📚

2017 was the year Reading Keeda grew bigger, brighter, and louder with stories. We moved into a new space, made it vibrant and lively with our creative ways, crossed 𝟏,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬, and also introduced a 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬' section.

While doing all this, in 2019, we found ourselves at the 𝐇𝐲𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐝 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 being awarded with "𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟒 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠"
under Indian Reading Olympiad by 'Food 4 Thought' foundation.

Looking back, we feel that it's during these years that our little summer library had started becoming a community library.

In 2014, Reading Keeda began as a summer library with a modest collection of 150 books. Our first year saw just 5 members, but we didn't let the small numbers deter us. We believed in the magic of stories, so we continued to reopen the library every summer for the next two years, watching our community grow one reader at a time.

These early summers were filled with mystery, adventure, fantasy and mythology. Our shelves were home to timeless favorites like Enid Blyton’s Famous Five and Secret Seven, and we spent many afternoons tracking clues alongside the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew.

By 2016, we had tripled our collection to 500 books, taking a bold step towards a much bigger dream.

What does 12 years of a reading movement look like?

It looks like shelves filled with stories, ideas, questions, adventures, laughter, and wonder. It looks like thousands of children discovering the joy of reading, one book at a time.

As we celebrate 12 years of Reading Keeda, we are reflecting on the incredible journey of building a collection that sparks curiosity and invites exploration. Today, our library stands proudly with 𝟕𝟎𝟎𝟎+ 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐞𝐬, 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬, creating countless pathways for young readers to connect with stories that stay with them for life.
