Tiger Cub Safely Rescued and reunited with mother in North Umred Forest Range

A tiger cub that had fallen into a well at Lohara village under the North Umred Forest Range was safely rescued on Thursday night by the Nagpur Forest Division (Territorial). Information about the incident was received from villagers in the evening, after which the rescue team immediately rushed to the spot.
The approximately one-year-old tiger cub was first provided support in the water using a wooden cot, following which a carefully planned ‘’Physical Rescue Operation’’ was carried out by the well-trained Primary Response Team and Transit Treatment Centre (TTC) team using specialised rescue equipment and a safety cage. The cub was safely rescued without any injury and later shifted to the TTC, Seminary Hills, Nagpur, for further observation and care.
After confirming that the tiger cub was completely healthy, it was released back into its original habitat on Friday morning, 29/05/2026. Soon after the release, the cub successfully reunited with its mother in the forest.
The rescue operation was successfully carried out under the guidance of Dr. Vinita Vyas, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Nagpur Forest Division, with the collective efforts of Shri Manoj Dhanvijay, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Umred; Shri P. D. Babhale, Range Forest Officer, North Umred; TTC Nagpur rescue staff; forest guards; foresters; field staff; labourers; villagers; and with the support of the Umred Police Department, who helped manage the large crowd gathered at the site.

उत्तर उमरेड वनपरिक्षेत्रात विहिरीत पडलेल्या वाघ शावकाचा सुरक्षित बचाव व आईसोबत पुनर्मिलाप

उत्तर उमरेड वनपरिक्षेत्रातील मौजा लोहारा येथे विहिरीत पडलेल्या वाघ शावकाचा नागपूर वनविभाग (प्रादेशिक) मार्फत गुरुवारी रात्री सुरक्षित बचाव करण्यात आला. सदर घटनेची माहिती सायंकाळी गावकऱ्यांकडून प्राप्त होताच बचाव पथक तात्काळ घटनास्थळी दाखल झाले.
अंदाजे एक वर्षीय वाघ शावक विहिरीतील पाण्यात सुरक्षित राहावा यासाठी प्रथम लाकडी खाटीचा आधार देण्यात आला. त्यानंतर प्रशिक्षित प्राथमिक प्रतिसाद दल, ट्रान्सीट ट्रीटमेंट सेंटर (टीटीसी) पथक व वनविभागाच्या बचाव पथकाने विशेष बचाव साहित्य व सुरक्षित पिंजऱ्याच्या साहाय्याने नियोजनबद्ध बचाव कार्यवाही राबवून वाघ शावकाला कोणतीही इजा न होता सुरक्षित बाहेर काढले. पुढील निरीक्षण व वैद्यकीय तपासणीसाठी सदर वाघ शावकाला टीटीसी, सेमिनरी हिल्स, नागपूर येथे हलविण्यात आले.
वाघ शावक पूर्णपणे निरोगी असल्याची खात्री झाल्यानंतर शुक्रवार दिनांक २९/०५/२०२६ रोजी सकाळी त्याला त्याच्याच नैसर्गिक अधिवासात पुन्हा सोडण्यात आले. त्यानंतर सदर वाघ शावकाचा त्याच्या आईसोबत जंगलात पुनर्मिलाप झाला.
सदर बचाव कार्यवाही डॉ. विनीता व्यास, भा.व.से., उपवनसंरक्षक, नागपूर वनविभाग यांच्या मार्गदर्शनाखाली श्री मनोज धनविजय, सहाय्यक वनसंरक्षक, उमरेड; श्री पी. डी. बाभळे, वनपरिक्षेत्र अधिकारी, उत्तर उमरेड; टीटीसी नागपूर येथील बचाव पथक; वनरक्षक; वनपाल; क्षेत्रीय कर्मचारी; वनमजूर; गावकरी तसेच उमरेड पोलीस विभाग यांच्या सहकार्याने यशस्वीरित्या पूर्ण करण्यात आली.

During the foot patrolling, she interacted with the Primary Response Team, Rapid Rescue Team, and tendu leaf collectors. She has taken a review of ongoing forest protection, tiger monitoring, camera trapping works, etc. Shri Govind Luche, ACF, Ramtek; Shri Rahul Shinde, RFO, Parseoni; forest guards; foresters; and other field staff were present during the visit.

Maharashtra Day was observed at the New Administrative Building, Zero Mile, Nagpur, with a flag unfurling ceremony done by Shri Ramesh Kumar, IFS, Field Director, Pench Tiger Reserve.

The programme was attended by Shri G. Guruprasad, IFS, Conservator of Forests, Nagpur Territorial; Dr. S. Shivbala, IFS, Conservator of Forests, Working Plan; Dr. Vinita Vyas, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Nagpur Forest Division (Territorial); Shri Akshay Gajbhiye, IFS, Deputy Director, Pench; Shri Yash Kale, IFS, Assistant Conservator of Forests; Shri Nandkishor Raut, DFO, Social Forestry Division, Nagpur, along with ACFs, Administrative Officers, and other staff members.

The occasion highlighted a shared commitment towards Maharashtra’s rich natural heritage, environmental conservation, and sustainable development.
